TL;DR
- Google Maps now shows an overlay of the weather and air quality in the area you’re looking at.
- When you tap the weather widget, a card will appear showing the weather forecast for that day.
- This feature was previously only available in the iOS version.
Google Maps on Android borrows some useful features from the iOS version of the app. With the latest update to the Android app, you can now check the weather on Maps.
It was first discovered that 9to5Google, Google Maps on Android now has a small rectangular box in the left corner of the screen, just below the search bar. The box in question contains the local temperature, weather conditions, and air quality index (AQI).
Similar to the iOS version, these values change as you look at different parts of the map. The widget also disappears when you select something.

If you want more weather details, tap the box to see a card showing the current temperature and weather conditions, the day’s maximum and minimum temperatures, hourly forecast, and AQI. Tap AQI to see existing air quality map layers.
This feature is not yet available on my device, but other members of my team did. This feature should become widely available as soon as you update to the latest version of the app.
