Google Chrome could make sharing tab groups easier on Android

summary

  • Google Chrome is a popular web browser for Android, known for its ease of use and cross-platform compatibility.
  • Tab sharing and tab groups are important features for sharing your productivity and browsing experience with others. Google is currently working on making it easier to share tab groups from your Android device.
  • Chrome for Android also has features similar to the desktop version, such as color assignments for tab groups and visual indicators for selected tabs.

Google Chrome ranks high on the list of best web browsers for Android and is the most popular browser in the world by number of users. This is largely due to the ease of use and familiarity that Chrome offers on all platforms. Switching from a desktop to an Android tablet doesn’t feel like you’re in alien territory. However, some important elements are not yet supported, such as extensibility and full-featured tab groups on mobile. But Google is slowly making progress, and a new flag suggests that sharing tab groups will soon be easier.

Most of us only share individual links to products, articles, web pages, etc., so tab sharing may not seem like a necessary feature, but tab sharing allows recipients to Tab sharing is an important component as it allows you to resume browsing from where you left off. You can resume your work on other devices connected to your Google Account, or simply share hours of browsing with others.

Tab groups are useful for organizing your browser’s clutter into topics, and they’re easy to set up on Android. Simply open the Tab Switcher UI and drag and drop tabs to create groups. Adding more tabs is much like adding apps to a folder on your home screen. However, if you want to share this tab group, select all the grouped tabs in the tab switcher and click on the three-dot overflow menu.[共有]You need to press a button. This turns an organized tab group into a list of her web URLs for the recipient.

Popular Chrome feature researcher @Leopeva64 at X (formerly Twitter) recently discovered some new flags in Chrome Canary for Android, suggesting that tab groups will soon achieve feature parity with the desktop version of the browser. I am. The flag’s description suggests that Google allows visual indicators such as assigning colors to tab groups and outlines of selected tabs in tab strips. Leopeva64 also notes that feature parity will greatly simplify sharing tab groups on Android devices. Perhaps Google will allow convenient sharing via QR code or other means so that the selected tab opens immediately on the recipient’s device.

Unfortunately, enabling the flag in the current Canary build doesn’t work, so it’s useless. As such, many implementation-related questions remain unanswered, but Google updates Chrome regularly, so it’s only a matter of time before we try out the system firsthand. We’d especially appreciate it if these changes made it easier to sync tab groups across linked devices (machines running Chrome that are signed in with the same Google account).
