Oil cooling improves motor heat dissipation
Auburn Hills, Michigan, February 8, 2024 /PRNewswire/ — BorgWarner has begun producing eMotor rotors and stators for XPeng Motors, a leading smart EV company in China. The product will be used in the X9 MPV and XPeng’s upcoming electric B-Class sedan, with production scheduled to begin in Q3 2024. The High Voltage Hairpin (HVH) 220 eMotor offers high power and torque density, as well as high efficiency. Competitive cost. It also has excellent durability.
“We are proud to supply this leading OEM with our proven stators and rotors. Chinese electric vehicle industry,” said Dr. Stephan Demerle, President and General Manager of BorgWarner Power Drive Systems. “BorgWarner’s deep product expertise will support XPeng as it advances its electric drive designs.”
The HVH220 eMotor uses a 220 mm outer diameter stator and BorgWarner’s patented high-voltage hairpin winding technology and has an operating range of up to 800 V. It incorporates a permanent magnet rotor and proprietary stator insulation reinforcement technology to provide superior durability and reliability. BorgWarner’s HVH220 can generate up to 300kW of power at a maximum operating speed of 18,000 rpm and has a peak efficiency of over 97%.
BorgWarner has developed an oil cooling solution to meet the performance demands of higher power motors. Specifically, gearbox oil cools the motor, improving heat transfer and total heat rejection in the system. Direct cooling of the rotor oil also extracts heat from the electric motor core, allowing higher torque and power density to be achieved.
