(Seguin) — Are you ready to enjoy a delicious night of CHAOS? Texas Lutheran University’s annual Chemistry Chaos Night opens its doors again this year!
CHAOS stands for “Chemistry Happens with Adventurous Outstanding Scientists,” and we aim to explore the wonders of chemistry in fun new ways.
The theme of this year’s event is “Chemistry of Food and Culinary Arts.”
Children of all ages will ask questions such as: “Have you ever wondered why eggs turn white when you cook them?” Or why do cookies smell so good when baked in the oven? ”
They return home with the answer to why tonic water glows under a black light.
“We don’t really think about the science behind the foods we eat every day,” says Dr. Alison Bray, professor and chair of the chemistry department at TLU. “At Chemistry CHAOS, students of all ages have the opportunity to learn about food and cooking science through hands-on and ‘never try at home’ experiments.”
Children from kindergarten to high school, as well as children at heart, can attend this event and learn about the processes that occur in the world of food and cooking through various experiments.
Dr Bray said there would also be plenty of opportunities for visitors. He will learn how to make biopolymers in the form of rice paper sushi wraps, perform candy chromatography, and even have the opportunity to taste liquid nitrogen ice cream.
“We are very excited to share our science and hope the community is too,” says Bray.
TLU’s Chemistry CHAOS will be held today at the Jackson Park Student Activities Center from 6 to 8 p.m. The event is hosted by his TLU’s Pi Rho Chemistry Club and is free and open to the public.
