A few months ago, Microsoft implemented experimental extension support in Edge for Android, giving users a very limited set of extensions to improve their mobile browsing experience.
The idea was great, but we couldn’t do it with just two extensions. You can now resolve the “No Extensions” issue in Microsoft Edge for Android by installing desktop extensions from the Edge Add-ons Store.
This process is neither official nor very user friendly. The extension ID must be inserted in the developer settings within Microsoft Edge Canary for Android.
If you want to try it out, here’s how to install Edge extensions on Edge for Android, as explained by u/daplugg23 on Reddit.
- Visit the Edge Add-ons website and find the extension you want to install on Edge for Android.
- Click the address bar and copy the last part of the address after the / symbol. That’s your extension ID. For example, the extension ID for Microsoft Editor is: hokifickgkhplphjiodbggjmoafhignh.
- Download Microsoft Edge Canary from Google Play Store.
- Start your browser and navigate to edge://flag.
- Find and turn it onAndroid extension” flag.
- Restart Edge and navigate to: Settings > About Microsoft Edge.
- Tap the build number five times quickly to enable developer options.
- search “Install extension by ID” and paste the ID you copied in step 2.
- Open a new tab, navigate to any website, and open the extensions list. The extension should be there and ready to work with.
Please note that not all desktop extensions work on mobile. Some work fine, some work partially, and some frequently crash the browser or cause other instability.
Try installing different extensions to see what works and what doesn’t. Also note that Microsoft Edge for Android does not support the Chrome Web Store. – Only extensions from the Edge add-on store will work.
