SANYA, China, June 3, 2024 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Recently, Hainan Tropical Applied Postharvest Research Center launched a collaborative project with Plant Food Research Institute (PFR) of New Zealand, aiming to provide post-harvest freshness preservation solutions for tropical agriculture in Hainan province, which is located at the same latitude, and the global tropical premium fruit and vegetable industry.
Since November 2023, representatives from Hainan Province have visited New Zealand several times at the invitation of PFR for cooperation in the Tropical Postharvest Research Project-Yazhou Bay.
The establishment of the “New Zealand PFR Tropical Post-Harvest Freshness Technology Yazhou Bay Science and Technology City Cooperation Base” in Sanya marks an important milestone in agricultural cooperation between China and New Zealand.
In recent years, Yazhou Bay Science and Technology City has focused on the entire seed industry chain, innovated the integrated system, and built comprehensive science and technology platforms such as the Sanya International Seed Industry Science and Technology Innovation Center and the Seed Industry CRO Platform, which promote international scientific exchanges, cooperation, investment and incubation in the seed industry, and provide regional enterprises with molecular testing, genotyping, seed quality testing and other services.
To date, Sanya Yazhou Bay Science and Technology City has attracted 9,310 registered enterprises with a total investment of about 57.2 billion yuan in fixed assets, fostered and introduced 168 national high-tech enterprises, and attracted more than 30 research institutes and key universities, including the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and the Ocean University of China. In addition, 189 leading domestic and foreign seed industry enterprises, including China Seed Group and Germany’s KWS, have set up bases in the district.
In the future, Sanya Yazhou Bay Science and Technology City aims to further leverage its strengths in scientific research, industrial ecology and industrial empowerment, and develop into an internationally influential agricultural business exchange and cooperation platform.
