Currently, Wu and Tanaka are preparing to return to Tokyo, where Wu finished fourth at the Olympics.
Wu’s rivals include Australia’s 2018 Commonwealth Games champion and Olympic fifth place Brandon Stark, Australian champion Joel Baden, and Japan’s Tomohiro Niino, Ryoichi Akamatsu and Naoto Hasegawa.
Tanaka returned to defend his Seiko Golden Grand Prix 1500m title after winning last year in Yokohama with a time of 4:11.56.
Her compatriot Ririka Hironaka was selected for the women’s 5,000 meters.
In the 100m hurdles, Asuka Terada and Masumi Aoki, tied for second place in Japan’s history, will compete against Yumi Tanaka. Japanese record holders Shunsuke Izumitani and Rashid Muratake will compete in the 110m hurdles.
