Worried about getting scammed via text message? Android 15 is going to prevent that from happening

Now that Google has started rolling out the Android 15 Developer Preview, you’ll start to notice a lot of features discovered in the latest update. One of the features just discovered is actually from Android 14 QPR3 Beta 1, and based on the information found, future versions of Android will include it to prevent fraudsters from accessing sensitive information. It seems that some kind of countermeasures may be taken. .

Android 15 has the potential to make users even more secure with an additional focus on security.

Mishaal Rahman discovered a feature while exploring Android 14 QPR3 Beta 1 and talks about how there is a new permission called RECEIVE_SENSITIVE_NOTIFICATIONS. This permission also has a protectionLevel of role|signature, which means it can only be granted to applications that have the required role or are signed by the OEM. Another thing to note here is that the exact role that grants this permission is not yet defined. Rahman also claims that from the looks of it, Google may not allow third-party apps to use this permission.

Rahman also believes this permission may be tied to the ability to edit sensitive information from untrusted apps that implement NotificationListenerService. Additionally, he claims that this is an API that allows apps to read all notifications and perform actions on them. Users must manually grant app permissions in Settings before they can use the NotificationListenerService API. He also shared a screenshot of what it looks like. You can see it below.

Rahman says he can understand why Google would want to limit the API, since it is very powerful. At this time, the actual scope of this permission and how Google will implement it in Android 15 is still unknown. But I sincerely hope that with the new update, this will actually become commonplace and more people will be afraid of getting scammed, especially when they receive his OPT message. Because, let’s be honest, scammers and hackers are everywhere, and often they’re just scammers. If we wait for one step to go wrong, and if that happens, things will quickly become chaotic.

We’ll keep you posted if this feature starts arriving in future Android versions, but for now just know that it’s likely coming in Android 15 at some point in the future.
