World’s oldest man Juan Vicente Pérez dies at 114 | World News

The world’s oldest man has died at the age of 114, less than two months shy of his 115th birthday.

Juan Vicente Perez from Venezuela is 112 years and 253 days old as of February 4, 2022, and has been recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records as the world’s oldest living man.

He credited his longevity to “working hard, resting on holidays, going to bed early and drinking a glass of Aguardiente.” [a strong liquor] I love God every day and always have Him in my heart. ”

Born May 27, 1909, Mr. Perez was married to Ediofina del Rosario Garcia for 60 years until her death in 1997.

Together they had 11 children (6 sons and 5 daughters) and went on to be blessed with 42 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

He celebrated his 110th birthday in 2019, becoming the first male Supercentenarian from Venezuela.

Perez lived through two world wars and the coronavirus pandemic.

Freddy Bernal, governor of Tachira, Venezuela, where Mr. Perez lived, wrote of X: “Dear Juan Vicente Pérez Mora, today, with deep sadness and pain, we say goodbye to a humble and typical man from Táchira: hard-working, peaceful and devoted to his family and traditions. is.”

He added: “My old Don Vicente, we will always remember his optimism in life, his faith, his hope and his deep love for our state of Tachira.

“He will always remain a symbol of goodness, wisdom and joy, which is why his legacy will live on forever in our hearts and lives. Dear old man, my Don Rest in peace, Juan Vicente. We will never forget you.”

President Nicolás Maduro tweeted: “Juan Vicente Pérez Mora crossed eternity at the age of 114, giving Venezuela a Guinness record as the world’s oldest man from the town of El Cobre.

“I send hugs and condolences to his family and all the people of El Cobre, Tachira. May God receive him in His holy glory!”

According to Guinness World Records, the world’s next oldest living man is Japan’s Gisaburo Sonobe, who is expected to be 112 years old, but is awaiting confirmation from his family.
