As June draws to a close, so does the first half of the 2024 MLB season. In each league, the favorites are beginning to pull away from the championship contenders, and the playoff field is slowly starting to take shape.
But each league’s playoff outlook is coming into focus very differently: The American League’s division and wild-card races are beginning to be settled, while in the National League, only two teams are not within five games of a wild-card spot.
This chaotic energy in the National League is creating some interesting excitement heading into the July trade deadline and the second half of the season, and BetMGM tried to make sense of the chaos with its latest betting odds on who will win the 2024 World Series.

MLB Power Rankings: 2024 World Series Odds
1. Los Angeles Dodgers (+300)
When healthy, the Dodgers’ lineup is led by back-to-back MVP Mookie Betts, Shohei Ohtani and Freddie Freeman. All three players rank in the top 11 in OPS this year. Ohtani leads the MLB with a .322 batting average and leads the National League with 25 home runs.
Nearly everyone else on the team has been excellent: Catcher Will Smith is one of the best offensive catchers in baseball, and outfielders Jason Heyward and Teoscar Hernandez have both enjoyed career resurgences since arriving in Los Angeles.
And their pitching staff ranks second in the MLB in ERA (3.25) and WHIP (1.10) and first in batting average allowed (.214).
2. New York Yankees (+450)
Aaron Judge is on pace to hit home runs for a record-breaking 2022 season, Juan Soto has risen to superstardom in New York and Giancarlo Stanton was in the best shape he’s been in years before his recent injury. The potent offense has scored the third-most runs in MLB this season (408) and is second in home runs with 118.
At the same time, the Yankees’ pitching staff has also stepped up and had a strong season. Marcus Stroman has pitched well and, barring a few recent blunders, rookie Luis Gil has done the same. The Yankees’ pitching staff has been one of the best in the MLB this season and deserves just as much praise as the team’s offense.
3. Philadelphia Phillies (+500)
The Phillies enter this season having appeared in the National League Championship Series for two straight years, including a championship season in 2022. Somehow, this team looks even better than the teams of the past two years.
Philadelphia entered Thursday with the best record in the major league at 53-27. Their pitching staff leads the league by a wide margin with a 3.07 ERA. What’s most impressive is that this performance isn’t being driven by traditionally good pitchers Zack Wheeler and Aaron Nola, but by a near-perfect relief corps featuring Ranger Suarez (2.01 ERA, second in the MLB) and Christopher Sanchez (2.67 ERA, ninth).
And that doesn’t even begin to mention how Bryce Harper has been doing this year as he settles into his new role at first base, hitting 20 home runs, posting a .987 OPS (fifth-best in the majors) and ranking in the 93rd percentile in MLB defensive coverage with just two errors on the year.

4. Baltimore Orioles (+800)
There is no more exciting young team in MLB than the Orioles.
Baltimore leads the MLB in runs allowed (417), home runs (132), slugging percentage (.461) and OPS (.776), while also ranking third in pitching ERA (3.39), fourth in WHIP (1.16) and third in batting average allowed (.224).
The Orioles’ most outstanding player this year has been shortstop/leadoff hitter Gunnar Henderson, who turned 23 on Saturday and has 26 MLB home runs. His 1.005 OPS this season is second only to Judge and Ohtani and he’s the favorite to win the AL MVP award just one year after winning the league’s Rookie of the Year award.
5. Atlanta Braves (+900)
The Braves will be hit hard by the loss of National League MVP Ronald Acuna for the remainder of the season with a torn ACL, but that doesn’t mean they’re out of the running for the championship.
The team has won 100 games in each of the past two seasons thanks to a talented core of second baseman Ozzie Albies, third baseman Austin Riley and first baseman Matt Olson. In addition, left fielder Jarred Kelenic has looked to be on the upswing since joining the Braves this offseason. Marcell Ozuna is the best designated hitter in the league this year outside of Shohei Ohtani.
Atlanta’s pitching staff is also performing well, with Reinaldo Lopez leading the MLB in ERA (1.70) and Chris Sale and Max Fried both holding steady with ERAs under 3.10.

6. Seattle Mariners (+1400)
7. Cleveland Guardians (+1600)
8. Houston Astros (+2000)
9. Minnesota Twins (+2200)
10. Milwaukee Brewers (+2800)
T-11. Arizona Diamondbacks, Kansas City Royals, San Diego Padres, Texas Rangers (+5000)
T-15. Boston Red Sox, St. Louis Cardinals (+6600)
T-17. Chicago Cubs, New York Mets, San Francisco Giants (+8000)
20. Tampa Bay Rays (+10000)
T-21. Cincinnati Reds, Toronto Blue Jays (+12500)
23. Pittsburgh Pirates (+20000)
24. Detroit Tigers (+25000)
T-25. Los Angeles Angels, Washington Nationals (+50000)
T-27. Chicago White Sox, Colorado Rockies, Miami Marlins, Oakland Athletics (+100000)
