The effort raised more than $8,000 to purchase a pinball machine.
“Overall, it was a big win,” Fogliano said.
However, he began to feel unwell around 1 a.m. on Saturday morning, and his attempt to set the record for “longest pinball marathon” ended in failure.
“From top to bottom. I started sweating cold and my throat was dry, so I had to leave,” Fogliano said.
Then, he said, when he saw a pinball machine with lights and sounds, it was too much to handle.
“So I fought through until about 11 o’clock Saturday morning. So I had to tap out at 37 hours,” Fogliano said.
When he planned this endeavor, the record for pinball play was 48 hours. This figure has since increased to more than 62 hours for him.
“I’ve had multiple people contact me and say they’re going for the record, so I think that number will continue to grow,” he said.
Fogliano has considered record attempts in boxing, biking and swimming.
“Typically, I try to pick something different each year to challenge myself, educate and involve the rest of the community,” he said. “I just love people. It’s a great way to get out and meet new people and learn about a new world, as well as help make a difference.”
Fogliano attempted to break his second world record at Hamilton’s Pinball Garage. The goal there was to play pinball for more than his 63 hours on his Avengers: Infinity pinball machine. He started playing pinball on Thursdays at 9 p.m.
The effort was livestreamed via What-the Flip Pinball, and Fogliano called the Pinball Garage staff phenomenal.
He and his team sold T-shirts and 100 percent of the proceeds went toward the pinball machine. Fogliano said some of the T-shirts will remain at Pinball Garage, and purchases will go toward Tickets to Hope.
The $8,000 Fogliano raised will go toward purchasing a new Avengers: Infinity Quest pinball machine. Joe Nuxhall Miracle League Field is in the process of building the Hope Center, which will include a game room, which will be the first of its kind.
About a week after the event, Fogliano said she received a call from a man named Jordan Nash who lives in West Virginia.
“Jordan called me and said, ‘I saw the Journal News article,’ apparently in West Virginia,” Fogliano said. Nash contacted a company in Colorado called Inclusive Gamewerks and had them send him the device. “And it allows for accessibility even for people who can’t play for whatever reason,” he said.
This machine is handheld, connects directly to your pinball machine, and has three buttons. Fogliano said it’s a controller with a harness.
“This is an amazing device and allows everyone to participate. The Joe Nuxhall Miracle League team was extremely accommodating from start to finish. I talked about it over 100 times throughout the weekend. We did. That was pretty cool. It just shows how far good news can spread,” Fogliano said. “It was amazing to be able to get our hands on the device before the event and be able to show it off throughout the weekend.”
After setting the first Guinness World Record for “Most High Fives in 24 Hours” with 15,338 high fives in one day during last year’s Flying Pig Marathon weekend, Fogliano sets his second world record. I was thinking of doing it.
The previous record was 14,607 high fives, set by Australia’s Pete Timbs during the Bridge to Brisbane Fun Run in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia on September 2, 2012.
Fogliano’s work also helped Ticket to Hope send 1,000 community members to the Aug. 7 Cincinnati Reds game.
Hamilton-based Ticket to Hope is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to bring hope to individuals who need it most by creating unforgettable experiences.
Andrew Robichaud of Lakeland, Florida, currently holds the Guinness World Record for “Longest Marathon Playing Pinball” at 62 hours and 21 minutes. He achieved this record between September 1 and 3, 2023.
Fogliano said he had “never really played pinball before” before practicing over the past four to six months.
“I’m really getting into this game, it’s a lot of fun. You can learn a lot from it and it’s exciting for the kids too. It’s just a phenomenal game. It’s really cool. ” he said.
