World of Warcraft’s epic nostalgia tour of old content is going strong, with Blizzard announcing that in addition to adding the Cataclysm expansion to World of Warcraft: Classic, it will be running a new event that takes players back to 2012’s Mists of Pandaria expansion Did.
The event is called World of Warcraft Remix: Mists of Pandaria and will be available as a separate playable game to all WoW subscribers, whether you’re playing retail, classic, or both. Players create new characters through the Mists of Pandaria expansion, level up from 10 to 70 at lightning speed, and play quests, dungeons, raids, and other events just like they did back in the day, but with a twist. New customization options make powerful items more easily obtainable than before, and collected items can be used as cosmetic upgrades in the main retail game.
Notably, this isn’t World of Warcraft: Classic. The remix will use the characters’ talents, classes, and abilities from the current retail version, and the characters will carry over into the base game at the end of the remix. Blizzard teases that new Mist perks and upgrades will “enhance” current character abilities, so it’ll be interesting to see what, say, a Demon Hunter or Draxeel can do when thrown onto a timeless island. That would be interesting.
This remix event seems to take cues from many of the other successes World of Warcraft has enjoyed recently. Similar to the battle royale mode Plunderstorm, this is a limited time event separate from the main version of the game, and the rewards carry over. Like Classic, this is an effort to revisit specific points in Warcraft’s history, but like Season of Discovery, there are many new developments. It looks like Blizzard is ready to capitalize on the fan-favorite expansion here, perhaps reminding players of some of the key lore points ahead of the next retail expansion, “The War Within.” Sha is the World Soul. Could he play a role in the saga? What about Lee Sharji? We’ll have to wait and see.
It’s a busy time for World of Warcraft. The limited-time battle royale event Plunderstorm is going strong as the current main expansion, Dragonflight, comes to an end with its next closing event, Darkheart. The next expansion, The War Within, is scheduled to be released later this year. And in Classic, Cataclysm’s release date was fixed on May 20th, and the pre-patch was released on April 30th.
