World Baseball Tournament: European team comes from behind to win exhibition game against Hayate 223 – World Baseball Softball Federation

The European team tied 4-4 with Hayate 223, an expansion team that participates in the Japan Baseball Organization (NPB) farm system, ahead of the Global Baseball Games Car Next Samurai Japan Series scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday the 6th. March 7th, the only exhibition game

Manager Marco Mazzieri used nine pitchers as planned, giving at-bats to each position on the roster.

“It was a good game. This game was exactly what we needed to make decisions on Wednesday and Thursday,” said Mazzieri. He said, “I had a chance to evaluate the condition of the pitchers, and several players supported their cases well.”

Hayate took the lead in the top of the second inning against Luis Lugo. First baseman Shuhei Fukuda hit a leadoff single. Hayate loaded the bases with consecutive infield hits and scored on a fielding error. The second point was scored on Hayate’s grounder double play.

After Alex Liddy and Jeremi Profar had two hits in the first inning, all of Team Europe’s runs against starter Yusei Nishihama came on infield hits by Daniel Jimenez. Europe got its first extra-base hit when Profar’s pinch hitter Alberto Mineo led off the sixth inning with a double.

Hayate added two runs in the top of the 8th inning against Franklin Van Garp on hits by designated hitter Riki Fukutani and left fielder Ryosuke Nishikawa.

Team Europe, who was leading 4-0, made it a one-point game in the bottom of the 8th inning against reliever Keito Takeuchi. Mineo hit a double with two outs, making this his second at-bat. Takeuchi gave a walk to Sharon Schoop, and center fielder Marek Chulp hit a three-run home run deep into the left field seats.

In his second at-bat of the day, Noah Williamson hit a double off of strong-pitching closer Kensei Okuda in the bottom of the 9th inning with one out and 1st base, followed by a double off Delano Serraza. Catcher Gabriel Reno went full count, took the next ball to the left field seats, and hit the tying sacrifice fly. Wonder Encarnacion grounded out at second base, which could have given them a lead, and the game ended in a tie.
