Then-Maryland State Attorney Robert Hur speaks outside the federal courthouse in Baltimore on November 21, 2019.

U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland told lawmakers on Wednesday that a report by the Justice Department’s special counsel investigating President Joe Biden’s handling of classified documents will be released soon, according to the Associated Press.

Former Maryland’s top prosecutor, Robert Kyung-Hur, has been leading the investigation since Attorney General Merrick Garland called for him to come out of retirement and become a special prosecutor early last year.

In announcing his appointment, Garland expressed confidence in Herr’s ability to lead the investigation in a “fair and urgent manner.”

“This appointment affirms the department’s commitment to both independence and accountability, especially in sensitive matters, and its commitment to making decisions based, without question, solely on the facts and the law,” Garland said last January. This is something I would like to emphasize to the people.”

According to the Associated Press, after taking office, Mr. Huh said in a statement that he would “carry out the investigation duties with fairness, impartiality, and calm judgment.” “I intend to follow the facts quickly and thoroughly, without fear or favor, and respect the trust placed in me in carrying out this mission.”

Mr. Xu interviewed President Biden in October.

As part of the investigation, Heo met with the president for a two-day voluntary interview at the White House in October.

“As we have said from the beginning, the President and the White House are cooperating with this investigation,” White House Press Secretary I Am Sams said in a statement at the time. “As appropriate, we have provided the public with relevant updates while being as transparent as possible to protect and preserve the integrity of the investigation.”

Ho’s investigation runs parallel to Special Counsel Jack Smith’s investigation into former President Donald Trump, allegations of sabotage in the 2020 election, and the transfer of top secret government documents to his Florida mansion after his term ended. It is being done.

The key contrast between the two investigations is that Mr. Biden alerted authorities to the classified records, whereas most of Mr. Trump’s records were seized during subpoenas and an FBI investigation into his Mar-a-Lago property. is.

Then-Maryland State Attorney Robert Hur speaks in Washington, DC, on May 9, 2019.

What is Robert Barr’s experience?

Before his short-lived retirement, Barr served as chief of staff for the District of Maryland, one of the largest and busiest U.S. attorney’s offices in the nation, from 2018 to 2021.

In that role, he oversaw successful prosecutions of white supremacists, COVID-19 fraudsters, anti-Asian hate crime perpetrators, and drug cartel kingpins. His office was involved in the long-running investigation into the long-running case of former National Security Agency contractor Harold Martin, who was accused of removing a “breathtaking” amount of classified material and storing it in his Glen Burnie, Maryland, home. He also worked on investigations and prosecutions.

In recognition of his accomplishments as a U.S. attorney, Mr. Hur received the Attorney General’s Lifetime Achievement Award for outstanding achievement and excellence as a lawyer.

Prior to becoming Maryland’s top prosecutor, Mr. Hur served as principal deputy assistant attorney general at the U.S. Department of Justice headquarters in Washington, D.C., from 2017 to 2018. In that role, he was a member of the department’s senior leadership team and served as chief advisor to the deputy attorney general. The department said Attorney General Rod Rosenstein is assisting with oversight of all components of the department.

Mr. Herr received his law degree from Stanford University and served as editor-in-chief of the Stanford Law Review. After his graduation, he worked as a law clerk to then-Chief Justice William Rehnquist.

Working Group on Anti-Asian American Violence Led by Mr. Hur

In March 2021, Maryland Governor Larry Hogan selected Ha, who is Asian American, to lead the state’s working group on anti-Asian American violence. The commission was tasked with meeting with affected groups, analyzing crimes against Asian Americans, and making recommendations to improve policing and prosecution of related hate crimes.

Maryland Democratic Sens. Ben Cardin and Chris Van Hollen, the Baltimore Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force, created a permanent federal, state, and local law enforcement partnership to combat violent crime in Baltimore. He praised Mr. Ha’s efforts in establishing the association.

“It’s uncomfortable, but there’s work to be done.”

Rosenstein, who was deputy attorney general in the Trump administration, brought on Herr as chief of staff and oversees the work of then-special counsel Robert Mueller, who led the controversial investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election. I asked the director to cooperate.

The investigation shadowed much of Trump’s presidency, and although it was later revealed that the then-president had attempted to obstruct the investigation, he was not indicted.

Mr. Rosenstein represents a connection to much of Mr. Hur’s time at the Justice Department. He hired him as Maryland’s attorney in 2007, brought him to Washington in 2017 and later recommended him for the position of Maryland’s chief prosecutor, the same job Rosenstein previously held. His work as Deputy Attorney General.

“He understands that he has a job that has to be done correctly, even though it’s unpleasant,” Rosenstein said.
