On June 17, 1994, the world stopped. And on live television, one of the most dramatic events in American pop culture history unfolded.
Scene: A low-speed chase involving a white Ford Bronco and numerous police vehicles on a deserted California highway.
Inside that now famous vehicle? Former NFL running back turned media star O.J. Simpson was charged just days earlier with the murders of Nicole Brown Simpson and his ex-wife, Ron Goldman. His friend Al “AC” Cowlings was driving, and Simpson was on the phone in the back seat holding a loaded gun.
We all know what happened to Simpson between then and his death at age 76 from prostate cancer, which his family announced Wednesday. But what about a white 1993 Ford Bronco?
What happened to the white Ford Bronco chased by O.J. Simpson?
The car wasn’t Simpson’s. It belonged to Cowlings. Simpson and Cowlings were in fact driving the same car, but Simpson’s car had been seized as part of evidence gathering for the upcoming trial.

A USA TODAY exclusive in 2014 reported that Cowlings directed his friend Don Kreis, who works at a sports agency, to sell it. Kreis had connections with memorabilia collector Michael Kronick. However, Mr. Cowlings withdrew his deal and Mr. Kronick took him to court. Chronic sued Cowlings for more than $200,000 in damages and reached an undisclosed settlement in 1996.
Two months later, Cowlings’ attorney Stanley Stone said the car was sold for $200,000. Stone did not initially identify the buyer, but the vehicle eventually ended up in the hands of another customer named Michael Palwar.
How the ‘Porn King’ acquired a white Ford Bronco
Palwar made his money through pornography, was known by his family as “Porn King” and was an associate of Cowlings. Palwar told his cousin that he bought the car to help Cowlings, which filed for bankruptcy in 1997. Palwar apparently didn’t think the Bronco was worth anything, and the car was abandoned in the underground garage of The Westford, a luxury Los Angeles apartment complex. Purwar was alive. Apparently, the car had been idling for too long and the tires were leaking pressure.
White Ford Bronco returns for 2010s
In May 2012, Bronco resurfaced. From a 2014 article in USA TODAY: “The Bronco appeared outside the Luxor Hotel on the Strip in Las Vegas. It was there to promote the opening of SCORE!, a sports memorabilia museum and exhibit. . Six months later, the Bronco appeared in Greenwich.” It was an exhibition at the Blunt Foundation featuring artist Nate Lowman, who used topless photographs of Nicole Brown Simpson in his work. ”
As the 20th anniversary of Brown and Goldman’s murder approaches, USA TODAY’s search for the vehicle remains fruitless. It seems that Mr. Palwar was not there in Florida, where he had moved.
“I think we should care more about the people who were killed than about the white Bronco players,” Palwar told the New York Daily News.
A white Ford Bronco appears on ‘Pawn Stars’
In August 2017, shortly before Simpson was released from a Nevada prison after committing armed robbery, a white Ford Bronco was featured on an episode of “Pawn Stars.” Former Simpson agent Mike Gilbert said he bought the car from Cowlings.
Gilbert turned down the $500,000 offer, saying he would never sell the car for less than $1 million.

Next to Ted Bundy’s Volkswagen Bug and John Dillinger’s red Essex Terraplane, a white 1993 Ford Bronco currently resides at the Alcatraz East Crime Museum in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee.
