When Apple unveiled the new M2 iPad Air and M4 iPad Pro last month, it also announced updates to Final Cut Pro and a new iPhone app called Final Cut Camera that will give users professional camera control for video. At the time, Apple said Final Cut Camera would be released “later this spring,” but hasn’t said anything more about the app since.
After all, when will Apple release Final Cut Camera?
Final Cut Camera for iPhone
Apple describes Final Cut Camera as an “all-new video capture app” that lets creators “connect wirelessly and remotely manipulate each video angle with powerful pro controls.” The app was initially announced as a complementary tool for controlling iPhone cameras from an iPad, but it also works as a standalone app on iPhone.
Final Cut Camera lets users adjust white balance, manual focus and more while monitoring zebras and metering audio. It also offers ISO and shutter speed controls, and makes it easy to switch between resolutions and video formats.
When paired with an iPad, the app also mirrors the iPhone’s camera, allowing users to control all these settings from a larger screen, for example with their iPhone mounted on a tripod.
Final Cut Camera will be released alongside a new version of Final Cut Pro for iPad and Mac, which will add new features including support for live multicam and external storage workflows on iPad, and AI-based tools on Mac.
Release date
As Chris Curley pointed out, spring ends today in the US, and summer begins on June 20th, but Apple has still not said anything about the availability of the app. Given this, has Apple delayed the release of the new app?
It’s unclear exactly what happened, but one possibility is that Apple will wait until the release of iOS 17.6 (currently available as a beta) this summer before also releasing new Final Cut Camera and Final Cut Pro updates.
Until then, try out an app like Blackmagic Camera , which also gives you professional controls for shooting video on your iPhone and is available for free on the App Store.
