WhatsApp rolls out bottom navigation tabs to all Android smartphones

WhatsApp is currently rolling out notable changes to the user interface of its app on Android smartphones. The messaging service owned by Meta announced that it has moved his four navigation tabs from the top of the screen to the bottom. The updated visual interface has been enabled in the beta version of the app for the past few months and is now enabled for all users. The new design also allows users to easily switch between tabs while using the phone with one hand.

WhatsApp announced the rollout of a new bottom navigation bar on Android in a post on X (formerly Twitter). The service posted an image of its old interface, which had four tabs above the list of chats: Community, Chats, Status, and Calls. In the latest update, these tabs will be moved to the bottom along with their icons and their order may be rearranged.

Dear Android friends, we’ve moved a few things around to make it easier to access what you need, when you need it.

This is one of the most notable changes to the interface of WhatsApp for Android in recent times, and it puts the app’s main navigation tabs within thumb’s reach. This is especially useful if you only have one hand free. However, if you want to search for something, you still have to reach to the top of the screen. WhatsApp for iOS also shows tabs at the bottom of the screen. The settings menu has his fifth tab.

After several months of testing in the beta channel, the bottom navigation tab may finally be rolled out to users, but WhatsApp has announced that it will be announcing further features that may be introduced to the app in the future. I’m busy with development. The messaging service is reportedly developing the ability to make international payments through the app using India’s NPCI’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI).

The messaging service is also working on adding new AI-powered features to its app. WhatsApp is developing a feature that can provide users with text prompts to create stickers using artificial intelligence (AI) within the app. Similarly, WhatsApp was recently spotted developing an AI-powered image editing feature as well as the ability to ask meta AI questions via the WhatsApp search bar. These features are yet to be rolled out to users in both stable and beta versions of WhatsApp.
