What you need to know
- WhatsApp beta for Android, including version 2.24.7.6, introduces a new status update feature.
- Similar to Instagram, users can share up to one-minute videos as status updates.
- Previously, the same ability was limited to only 30 seconds.
WhatsApp is working on a new feature, and this is clearly the most requested feature: the ability to share longer status updates.
According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp users can currently share status update videos with a running time of 30 seconds, but this is subject to change. The latest version of his WhatsApp beta is 2.24.7.6 This version was found to be able to test status updates of up to 1 minute, which is a significant improvement over the existing limit.
WABetaInfo further states that the new feature is currently only available to some beta testers. However, after the official update, it will be available to more users soon.
Previously, users could only share short video forms through status updates or multiple 30-second clips of longer video posts. This new feature will allow users to share one-minute long videos, similar to what they are used to on their Instagram Stories.
Apparently, this new feature was the most requested feature on WhatsApp and the decision to introduce this feature was taken based on user feedback, WABetaInfo points out.
WhatsApp has always been introducing/testing new features to compete and catch up with rival messaging apps. The messaging platform was recently spotted testing voice memo transcription on Android. Previously available to iOS users.
Additionally, WhatsApp also started testing the ability to hide link previews in chats through a recent beta version of the app. Late last month, WhatsApp also introduced new text formatting options to the existing bold, italic, strikethrough, and monospace formats.
