Mobile World Congress may not attract as much attention as it used to, especially as major smartphone brands have minimized their presence at trade shows. However, this does not mean that this year is not the most exciting time for smartphones his fans. Especially if he prefers brands like OnePlus and Motorola over Android giants like Google and Samsung. Android Police preparing to dispatch his 4 units — yes, four — The intrepid reporters who visited the exhibition hall (including yours truly) tell us what they’re looking forward to from MWC 2024.
When is Mobile World Congress?
Mark your calendars, it’s starting soon.
Mobile World Congress 2024 technically runs from Monday, February 26th to Thursday, February 29th (Happy Leap Day for all of us), but like most trade shows, many companies are waiting for the venue to open. I won’t wait. Look for official announcements to begin over the weekend leading up to the actual event.
Who should we expect to be there?
Sure, MWC isn’t the behemoth it once was, but it’s helped bring a lot of companies into the spotlight that would otherwise have a hard time getting noticed. Here are just a few of the brands we know will be participating and what to expect from them.
New software experience, no need to travel to Spain
We’re not going to get new hardware from Google, but that doesn’t mean the company that created Android doesn’t have space on the show floor. Not only will we get a whole new booth experience from the brand (and some new pins, at least for those of us in the field), but there could also be some new Android announcements timed perfectly for MWC. there is. Last year, we released features focused on Drive, Keep, and more. Only time will tell what will happen this year.
honor
Global launch and refreshed foldable
Honor just announced its thinnest foldable smartphone ever, so there’s only one thing left for the brand to do. That is to release a regular smartphone. Initially exclusive to China, the Magic 6 Pro is making its global debut and, on paper at least, is one exciting smartphone. But those of us who focus solely on foldable products (you know, the Michael Fishers of the world) still have something to look forward to. The Magic V2 RSR will jump into our hearts during MWC thanks to its partnership with Porsche Design.
motorola
Perhaps another concept phone?
Personally, one of the coolest things I had the pleasure of seeing on the show floor last year was the Motorola Rizr, a concept rollable smartphone that literally grows in your hand. Motorola hasn’t officially announced his plans for this year’s MWC 2024, but given the popularity of last year’s concept phone, it’s safe to say that rather than buy time, he’d rather have a booth just to take pictures through the glass. I had to struggle through it. I used this device myself. We wouldn’t be surprised to see more concepts on the show floor. If we’re lucky, we might also start hearing about the future of his Razr lineup later this year.
there is nothing
Hopefully a pun I don’t write yourself
There are no concrete plans at this time. While the Nothing Phone 2a is on hold for his March 5th announcement, long after the exhibition halls have closed and I’ve returned to my usual continent, the brand has been on hold for his February 27th launch since late last year. It foretold something for the day. Then again, the invitation clearly states “there’s nothing to see,” so maybe it’s all for nothing.
Above all else, we will focus on the brand. In a rather impromptu appearance in front of Qualcomm’s booth last year, Nothing confirmed his intention to use his Snapdragon 8 chipset in the Nothing Phone 2. Maybe they could keep the Phone 2a in its own event while teasing a successor to that device. In early March. Either way, the AP is coming to investigate.

one plus
A new and preferably better watch
OnePlus has already shared what its next wearable will look like ahead of an event scheduled for Monday during MWC, so expect to get all the details on the OnePlus Watch 2 next week. is. Given his OnePlus 12 and OnePlus 12R, which just launched, a phone announcement seems unlikely at best. That said, the company is known for frequently showing off concept devices. While it’s unlikely to be as impressive as what Motorola wants to show off, don’t be surprised if some futuristic new technology hits the show floor.

xiaomi
Pro or ultra?the choice is yours
Source: Xiaomi
Similar to Honor, Xiaomi has already launched this year’s flagship products in China. At MWC, the Xiaomi 14 and 14 Pro will be presented globally, but perhaps that’s not all. The company just launched the Xiaomi 14 Ultra in China, and like its less capable siblings, we should be able to see it in action on the MWC stage. With such an early reveal, the excitement dwindles a bit, but it’s still something to be excited about.
What’s next in the mobile world?
These are just a few of the big brands heading to Barcelona next week, and you won’t have to wait long for the show to start. The show officially begins on Monday, but expect plenty of news over the weekend as Android Police heads to Mobile World Congress 2024.
