The Bürgenstock Hotel and Alpine Spa in Switzerland may have been named one of the world’s top 100 hotel suites thanks to the Royal Suite’s lake views, but this stunning spa resort also boasts a The view from the pool is wonderful. It is almost breathtakingly beautiful.

The property is in a stunning location 500 meters (1,640 feet) above Lake Lucerne, and Elite Traveler magazine, the bible for the ultra-wealthy, declared its “glorious wonders” indescribable.

I am determined to meet this challenge and will do my best.

Our approach to property is unique. My partner and I sail across glittering Lake Lucerne in the hotel’s own catamaran. A pair of swans skims the surface of the water and takes off on the bow, as if performing by prearranged arrangement.

If this mode of transportation doesn’t float your boat and you’re super wealthy, you can land just 15 minutes away by helicopter or private jet.

MailOnline Travel’s Ian Walker checked into the Burgenstock Hotel and Alpine Spa, which has a spectacular location 500 meters (1,640 feet) above Lake Lucerne.Above is the hotel’s stunning spa infinity pool

Burgenstock’s Royal Suite (above) was chosen by Elite Traveler as one of the top 100 suites in the world.

Exactly 35 minutes later, everything is on time in Switzerland. A few feet from the pier, we boarded the scarlet carriage of a vintage cable car. It takes him less than five minutes to climb the steep mountainside on which the property is built.

From the top station, we are guided to the flagship Bürgenstock Hotel and Alpine Spa. This spa consists of two sections: a contemporary building (102 rooms) and a heritage section (108 rooms). Meanwhile, the modern Waldhotel Health & Wellbeing (137 rooms) focuses on medical wellness treatments with state-of-the-art facilities that appeal to both recovering athletes and hotel guests seeking personalized wellness programs. The biggest attraction for discerning travelers is the 10,000 square meter spa, the largest in Europe. It has an incredible gravity-defying cantilevered infinity pool and more spa facilities than most visitors have ever heard of.

Founded in 1873 as a place for guests to enjoy clean mountain air, the resort has seen many changes over the years.

In the ’50s and ’60s, movie stars flocked to the 150-acre resort like bees to a honeypot.

It’ll save you: Ian and his partner arrived at the hotel by cable car (pictured above)
Founded in 1873 as a place for guests to enjoy clean mountain air, the resort has seen many changes over the years.
Following an investment of £465m, the new Bürgenstock Hotel and Alpine Spa opened in 2017.

Charlie Chaplin was a regular, and Audrey Hepburn and Sophia Loren also had vacation homes here for more than a decade.

Audrey married actor and director Mel Ferrer at the resort’s Bijou Chapel. The chapel still looks almost exactly as it did in her 1954 wedding photo.

Michael Douglas has also stayed here recently.

Meanwhile, James Bond buffs will recognize the iconic outline of the Hammetschwand Lift, Europe’s tallest open-air lift, built in 1905. This elevator clings to the side of the Burgenstock cliff and was featured in the classic 1964 film Goldfinger. The crew and cast, including Sean Connery, holed up at the resort for a month during filming.

Tastes changed, the appeal waned, and the resort closed in 2008.

Following an investment of £465 million, the new Burgenstock Hotel and Alpine Spa opened in 2017. The results of the investment can be seen in every room, hallway, restaurant and inch of the beautifully landscaped spa area, while many of the historic buildings are now protected as heritage sites. .

We managed to peek into the aforementioned Royal Suite on the 7th floor.

Beautiful walnut floors with a rich patina span the 3,315 square feet of luxurious property, reflecting the dancing flames of the double-sided glass fireplace, but distracting from the enormous windows and mesmerizing panoramic views. The thing isn’t even a Steinway grand piano. .

Ian writes: “The views from nearly every window, patio, balcony and pool of this stunning spa resort are breathtaking.”

On one side, majestic snow-capped mountains overlook lush green fields dotted with picturesque farms that supply much of the resort’s produce, and on the other, Lake Lucerne far below. You can see the magical sparkle of.

It’s hard not to feel on top of the world here, a feeling that’s only strengthened by the wonderful tranquility. Of course, you’ll also find all the amenities you need to make the most of the views below, including a large patio, hot tub, steam bath, sauna, walk-in closet, and spacious lounge.

At 452 square feet, the Lake View Bay Suite may not have as much floor space as the Royal Suite, but the designers thought of everything with window views overlooking the lake.

Lovely seating with plunge pool-sized bathtub, Japanese-style toilet with bidet function, walk-in closet, desk area, and plush bay window seat perfectly positioned to view the lake and mountains beyond. There is an area.

Curling up next to a glass double-sided fireplace is tempting, but we decided to see what Europe’s largest spa, accessed via a scenic glass bridge, had to offer. That’s a big deal.

In the ’50s and ’60s, movie stars flocked to the 150-acre resort like bees to a honeypot.

As well as a stunning infinity pool surrounding the outside of the building, there are a number of facilities including a herbal steam room, aroma sauna, Finnish sauna, infrared therapy and ice room. A tour with senior therapist Paula is a must. Especially since it tells you where the bare sections were.

The spa has cards that explain the facilities available for different purposes, such as “science-based,” “revitalize,” “regenerate,” and “relax.”

The three “thermal water journeys” have up to 11 steps, including instructions on when to take breaks and hydrate.

Following the “Journey” card is amazingly fun and a great way to try out most of the facilities, including the ice-filled pool at Lake Lucerne.

Dinner will be served at the Spice Kitchen and Terrace restaurant. The restaurant is cleverly constructed on a platform with glass walls on three sides.

Parts of the floor appear to magically float above the cliff.

Try the Chef’s Table tasting menu, which includes Thai, Chinese, Japanese and Indian cuisine.

Burgenstock employs chefs who specialize in each cuisine.

Signature dishes include Thai Crispy BBQ Duck Salad, Yellowtail Sashimi with Spicy Mango Salad, and mouth-watering Nawabi Chicken Tikka.

Highlights of Ian’s meal included melt-in-your-mouth beef and “the smoothest mashed potatoes.” Above is the Brasserie Ritz Coffier Restaurant. It happened to be closed during Ian’s visit.

Choose from a variety of activities, including the three tennis courts where Roger Federer played during his stay.

We had planned an e-bike tour around the resort, but the sun was shining so our helpful concierge suggested a hike to make the most of the views at the top of the Bürgenstock Plateau. Ta. There, I was also able to see the top station of Route 1,132. meters (3,713 ft) Hammetschwand Lift.

He’s right. Even though it had snowed a few days ago, I managed to get up the mountain in sweatshirts and a t-shirt and it was worth the hour or so.

You’ll feel like you’ve earned your second trip to the spa and enjoy Lakeview Bar & Cigar Lounge’s much-loved afternoon tea. Curated by 2024 Gault Millau Pastry Chef of the Year, Damian Carini, it consists of a selection of miniature art pastries, elegant finger sandwiches, delicious scones and, of course, a selection of high-quality tea blends.

Your final dinner will be at the Waldhotel’s Verbena Restaurant & Bar, featuring Seven Kitchen dining featuring signature dishes from the resort’s dining options.

We choose classic French dishes. Entrecote Café de Paris, tender steak on a bed of ruler-straight kidney beans, served with potato gratin and braised beef cheek bourguignon – melt-in-the-mouth meat rich and rich with smooth mashed potatoes, mushrooms and pearl onions A shallow pool of Bourguignon sauce.

A huge endorsement: The hotel’s tennis facilities are graced by champion player Roger Federer.
Room rates at Burgenstock start from £574 ($726/CHF 650). Bürgenstock Royal Suites start from £15,800 ($20,015/CHF 18,000) per night.

The cozy bar with lake views is the perfect place to enjoy an after-dinner drink. Award-winning mixologist Marie Gerber creates amazingly delicious cocktails.

Additionally, a glass-enclosed ‘cellar’ room displays 1,200 bottles of the world’s most popular wines and spirits, including a limited edition 007 champagne.

On your final day, enjoy your final breakfast overlooking the clouds from the Spice Kitchen & Terrace. Then, receive a top-notch massage in his one of the spa’s 15 treatment rooms. In its treatment rooms, you can actually feel your tense muscles loosen with just a touch. of an expert.

My partner says she received an amazing facial from Cyprienne, whom she describes as a “miracle worker masquerading as a therapist.”

Before departing on the stylish cable car and catamaran, you’ll have time to enjoy a very exclusive club sandwich and cappuccino and take in one last view of what I can confirm is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful views in the world.
