Apple and Google are negotiating a deal that could bring Google’s artificial intelligence models to future iPhones. Bloomberg first reported the story, followed by The New York Times and Wall Street Journal, using anonymous sources. Mobile phone manufacturers are quickly jumping into generative AI, but competition is fierce. [00:00:30] Google had to publicly apologize for embarrassing results in its generative AI, and even had to suspend problematic features. We are in an era where the software of a mobile phone is more interesting than its hardware.So Google’s generative AI model, known as Gemini, is another thing Apple might promote to attract people who want to buy the next iPhone, but it also has potential problems. Regardless, why would Apple want to put Google’s Gemini on the iPhone? Speaker 1: Let’s see what Google’s Gemini will look like [00:01:00] Can be used with iPhone. I’m Bridget Carey. One more thing. When iOS 18 arrives later this year, it could be a bigger story than the iPhone itself. Apple is expected to incorporate generative AI into its next iPhone operating system, and Bloomberg reports that there will be no major advances in the iPhone 16’s hardware. So software can be more important than usual. This software will sell the next iPhone. We’ll learn more about iOS 18 and probably [00:01:30] Some of Apple’s AI plans will be announced at WDC in June. That’s Apple’s annual developer conference. And Apple CEO Tim Cook said he expects to hear more about Apple’s AI efforts this year. At the shareholder meeting, he said Apple would break new ground in AI. We know that Apple has advanced processors that can take advantage of generated AI, but Apple doesn’t often talk specifically about its AI software. Apple has not announced its own version of the generative AI chatbot. [00:02:00] Users can type prompts to generate text and images, and have the AI provide solutions to requests that tech experts say Apple is lagging behind in the AI race. But as we learned in an interview with ACNBC, Apple executives don’t think so. Speaker 2: Critics are surprised that Apple seems to be behind the curve when it comes to AI. How do you answer? Speaker 3: I don’t think I’m too worried. I’m too worried. Speaker 1: This week, Apple acquired a Canadian startup. [00:02:30] Darwin ai and Darwin’s expertise is AI that runs on the device itself, rather than relying on servers in the cloud, making it more private. And just a few days earlier, without much fanfare, Apple released a research paper detailing the development of a new generative AI model. It allows him to call one and create wired report text and images. The researcher will demonstrate it, answer questions about the photo and demonstrate general knowledge skills. That is, Apple is developing products in this field, but if it takes more time, Apple may partner with another company to speed up the development of his iPhone this year. I would be displeased if Apple let Gemini run wild on my boyfriend’s iPhone. Apple prides itself on keeping your information private and protected on your device. I don’t want Google servers or the cloud looking into my chats when I’m translating text or editing work. So if Apple collaborates with Google’s Gemini, it will have to do so in a limited way in what it shares. [00:05:00] And Apple should put a limit on how much it can generate. I’m not expecting any tools. Or you can have your iPhone create an image of your cat or create an entire document. Because there’s a big risk that the iPhone could spit it out as something wrong. Recently, there has been a lot of criticism towards Gemini. Speaker 1: The company apologizes and suspends image generation of people after inaccurate results sometimes confused the races of historical figures and refused to generate images of white people There was a need. Of course, Google said it would work to fix the issue, but also said in a statement that it cannot promise that Gemini will not sometimes produce embarrassing, inaccurate, or offensive results. When you add up all the hardware, there are 2 billion Apple devices in use today. Bringing Gemini to Apple devices could make it the most commonly used AI and help Apple win the AI race until it’s ready to unveil the tools it’s developing.
