What Elon Musk said in a test interview for Don Lemon’s new show

It was raw and tense at times.

A wide-ranging and scathing interview with Elon Musk by former TV anchor Don Lemon was published online Monday morning, touching on topics such as politics, particularly the billionaire’s recent meeting with former President Donald J. Trump. . Reports of Mr. Musk’s drug use. Hate speech on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter and now owned by him. more.

The interview was supposed to be the debut episode of a new talk show in partnership between Mr. Lemon and Mr. The first episode of “The Don Lemon Show” was streamed on his YouTube and posted on Mr. Lemon. X’s account.

In the interview, Musk said he was having breakfast at an unnamed friend’s house in Florida earlier this month when Trump came over.

When asked what was discussed, Musk said Trump did most of the talking and that the former president did not ask for money or donations to his campaign. Musk also said he would not lend money to Trump to pay for legal fees.

Mr. Musk said he would not donate to any candidate, but would consider supporting a candidate later in the campaign.

“I don’t know yet. I want to make a well-considered decision before the election,” he said, pointing out that he is distancing himself from President Biden. “I haven’t kept it a secret,” he added.

If Musk endorses a candidate, he said he would explain his choice in detail.

Elsewhere in the interview, Musk asserted that he does not abuse drugs and talked about prescribing ketamine for “negative chemical conditions.”

“If you use too much ketamine, you can’t get a job. I have a lot of jobs,” he said. For him, working 16-hour days was “normal” and he rarely took weekends off, he said.

Musk seemed visibly irritated by the direct question about his seeming support of anti-Semitic conspiracy theories about X.

“You don’t have to answer these questions,” he said. “You don’t have to answer the reporter’s questions. Don, the only reason I’m doing this interview is because you’re using the X platform and you asked for it. Otherwise, this interview won’t be accepted. Probably not.”

Musk also appeared to sidestep questions about whether he has a responsibility to moderate hate speech on his platform and why certain posts weren’t removed.

“If something is illegal, we’re going to take it down,” Musk said. “If it’s not illegal, we’re putting our thumbs on the scale and we’re being censored.”

The show comes days after Musk abruptly ended X Company’s partnership with the former CNN host and after strong promotion from Lemon, who teased the interview in multiple places last week, including on “The View.” , aired on Monday morning.

Before the release of the book, the men were at odds over how to proceed with the interview.

Mr. Lemon stated in a statement Last week, I was told that his questions were respectful and covered a lot of subject matter. “We had a good conversation,” Lemon said. “Obviously he felt differently. His commitment to a global town square where you could ask all the questions and share all the ideas was a great way for people like me to appreciate him.” It appears that the question is not included.”

Musk, on the other hand, felt differently. In X’s post, Musk said Lemon’s show lacked originality..

“His approach was basically ‘CNN but on social media,’ which doesn’t work, as the fact that CNN is dying shows.” Musk wrote.

Company X had initially agreed to financially support Mr. Lemon’s show, but Mr. Musk’s decision to terminate the partnership blindsided Company This is the latest example of self-inflicted business interruption by the company.

In November, Mr. Musk boldly told advertisers not to spend money on his platform, fired them for using expletives, and made anti-Semitic comments about X that Mr. Lemon resurfaced on Monday’s show. It accused advertisers of “intimidation” after it appeared to support a conspiracy theory. . Many companies have suspended advertising campaigns on X due to Musk’s inflammatory comments.
