NORTH DAKOTA (KXNET) — It’s always interesting to hear other countries’ perspectives on American culture. So when KX Her News character Brown traveled to Europe, she couldn’t help but ask, and people had a lot to say.
She started with a simple question: “What do you think about America?”
“I love Americans. I think they’re very open-minded,” said the woman from Liverpool.
A man from the UK said, “The food is delicious and it’s very clean.”
“It’s very different from Europe,” said a man from the Netherlands.
“Prices are really high in America,” said a woman from Japan.
“The armed groups kill four to five children a day,” said a woman from Britain.
“Americans only think about themselves. And they’re really bad at geography,” said a woman from Germany.
They all have opinions, whether it’s education, gun control, the economy, or the health care system.
But one of the topics they most wanted to talk about was our political system. Specifically, Donald Trump and President Joe Biden.
“I don’t think Joe Biden is doing anything right for the country at this point.”
“I like Trump, but other people don’t. He said it like it is. But in Britain, even what I like, people don’t like.”
95% of those interviewed supported President Trump over Biden. In North Dakota, voters give Trump a 53-point lead over Biden.
Foreigners enthusiastically agreed with President Trump’s economic impact on America, but what they disagreed with was America’s gun control.
“We don’t have guns in the UK and we don’t have the problem of mass murderers happening every day. The numbers are rising and it’s very clear that we’re just cutting back on weapons.”
A poll by the University of Chicago Harris College and The Associated Press found that 71% of Americans say gun laws should be stricter, but not completely banned. Meanwhile, 40% of North Dakota residents favor strict laws against gun purchases.
Along with comments about America’s education system and economy, many foreigners were riveted by America’s obesity problem. It also led to opinions about our health care system.
“I think it’s very complicated. The medical system is very complicated, so there’s no insurance. Going to the hospital costs a lot of money.”
According to the latest data from the CDC, 41% of Americans are obese, and 35% of North Dakotans fall into the obese category as well.
And most Americans are not dissatisfied with their health care system, with 48% rating it “excellent or good,” 31% rating it “fair,” and 21% rating it “poor.” are doing.
Regardless of foreigners’ opinions about America’s government or economy, almost everyone has a positive view of American culture.
“It’s one of the easiest countries I’ve ever been to because there’s no language barrier. And they’re so happy to have us.”
“They like seeing each other, talking to their neighbors and meeting other people.”
“I love them. They’re wild, full of energy, and great people.”
“Honestly, I love everything about America.”
When I asked them what they liked about America, they all said the same thing. The film and entertainment industry.
