Google’s Waze app is most useful for crowdsourcing information about what’s on the road. This is all made possible through in-app reporting options. But now, a new update to Waze has given the report a new look and also removed some options.
The latest Waze update for both Android and iOS brings some big tweaks to reporting. A new danger icon in the corner of the screen brings up an improved menu that asks, “What do you see?”
Users will be able to report various road conditions. This includes traffic conditions, crashes, police activity (speeding), inclement weather, lane closures, road closures, etc. There are also options to report gas prices and request roadside assistance from fellow travelers who may be willing to lend a hand.
The redesign not only changes the look, but also makes the actual reporting much more efficient. Whereas previously a user might have had to go through two or three menus to get an option, Waze now updates his UI with more specific choices for each category. and automatically sends the report after a few seconds without any additional input.
However, some options seem to have been removed. The most notable thing here is roadkill. As some users have noticed, this is no longer an option in the “Danger” section of the report menu. The dedicated option to show cars stopped in the middle of the road has also been removed, but the option for “cars on the shoulder” is still there. These deletions can be replaced with other options, but the nuances that have been removed certainly make it a little harder to know what to expect, and that’s the real point of Waze anyway . And, somewhat confusingly, these options were only added relatively recently.
The update is now widely available on both Android and iOS, but the changes haven’t made it to Android Auto or CarPlay for everyone yet.
