world cafe will be live streaming the International Folk Music Awards in Kansas City on Wednesday, February 21st.
Organized by Folk Alliance International, IFMMA recognizes the folk music industry’s legends, unsung heroes, and up-and-coming talent. Awards will be given to the best albums, songs and artists of the year. Nominees include Allison Russell, Maddie Diaz, Nickel Creek, Gabby Moreno, Billy Strings, and Joy Oladokun.
Tracy Chapman will be presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award for her enthusiastic surprise performance at the Grammy Awards.
The People’s Voice Award, given to those who incorporate social and political commentary in their work, goes to The Riff Raff’s Alinda Segarra.
There will also be live performances by Kaia Cater, Joy Clark, Mireya Ramos, Willie Watson, Malena Cadiz and more. You can watch the ceremony in the video player below. The awards ceremony begins at 8:30 PM ET.
