There’s always something to see and do at Mid-America Science Museum, but there’s even more to learn with our new program, Science Saturday.
In addition to the usual educational opportunities, there are also additional activities and deep exploration exhibits to enhance the experience.
“Science Saturday is special, and we started it to give our visitors that extra incentive for their Saturday weekend visit,” said Casey Chandler, the museum’s director of educational development.

Now in its second week, the program will change weekly, but events will rotate regularly to give everyone a chance to take part in activities they missed. Discovery tables featuring science experiments will be set up around the museum from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. In the afternoon, staff educators will lead your exploration of the exhibits, sharing details, tips, and tricks for deeper or new understandings of the museum’s well-known and beloved exhibits.
Last Saturday, when the program began, the exhibit exploration was the Block Pit Challenge, where families competed against each other to build tall towers out of foam blocks.
“It will also be a treasure hunt for Roland Emmett exhibits,” Chandler said. “It’s about seeing all the really, really interesting household items that they used to make. Or it could be a tour of Dino Trek, a safari led by a dinosaur expert, or at least as much of a dinosaur expert as we are. there is” . ”
Another bonus content available on Science Saturday is a series of special activities in the Tinkering Studio. Facilitated by staff member and remodeling expert Anna Crane, the studio is open Saturdays from 1pm until 4pm.
Last weekend, she taught students anamorphic drawing using reflective cylinders to create distorted artwork.
The second Science Saturday will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will include a Dino Trek Safari and a Tinkering Studio activity called Scrappy Circuit.
Science Saturday will continue every weekend throughout the year and admission is included in the price.
