Walker Lumber & Supply announced in February that the company will celebrate its 75th anniversary this year. The company announced the following via social media:
“Let’s celebrate together as we take a trip down memory lane! Seventy-five years ago, in 1949, our founder Robert Walker returned from World War II and started his own lumber company. What started out as a small business specializing in strip flooring eventually grew into a thriving business that weathered many storms.
In 1973, under the leadership of Bob Harwell (Robert Walker’s son-in-law), a Vietnam veteran and recent college graduate, the company continued to evolve and diversify, eventually expanding into Tennessee with piggyback forklifts. It became the first sawmill. The back of the delivery truck. Walker Lumber grew despite facing challenges such as the expansion of Home Depot and the closure of more than half of Nashville’s sawmills.
Since 2016, under owners Ray Hales and Scott McMillan, Walker Lumber & Supply continues to innovate and modernize. Our focus on building best-in-class management teams and implementing technology while maximizing efficiency puts us at the forefront of the industry. But perhaps their greatest accomplishment is the nationally recognized Second Chance Program, which partners with local ministries to give hope and restore dignity to people recovering from prison or addiction. .
We are proud to announce that Walker Lumber & Supply has been named Dealer of the Year in 2023 by LBM Journal. This is a testament to our company culture, which is based on hospitality and service.
We are well positioned for continued growth. The best is yet to come as we continue to grow and improve every day. We are grateful to our amazing team and loyal customers… none of this would have been possible without you. Stay tuned for more exciting updates from this great company!”
