Vegan lifestyle linked to lower risk of erectile dysfunction

Researchers say men who follow a vegan lifestyle are more likely to have a better sex life than men who follow other diets.

A new study from New York University Grossman School of Medicine and Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health has found that a vegan diet can treat erectile dysfunction and provide men with a better sex life.

During the experiment, the team of researchers analyzed the health status of 3,500 men, all of whom had prostate cancer.

Scientists say prostate cancer treatment can cause erectile dysfunction and urinary incontinence.

The latest evidence shows that eliminating meat and dairy products from the diet and eating more grains, nuts, fruits and vegetables is associated with a lower risk of developing erectile dysfunction and urinary incontinence. .

Previous studies of twins have found that vegetarian women tend to have higher sex drives than their meat-eating siblings.

During the study, participants were divided into five groups according to their intake of plant and animal foods.

Each participant filled out a questionnaire summarizing their dietary intake and whether they had trouble maintaining an erection.

The results revealed that eating primarily plant-based foods can improve a man’s sex life by up to 11%.

Additionally, the study results showed that vegan participants had 14% better urinary tract health scores, with fewer episodes of obstruction, inflammation, and incontinence.

Eating plant-based foods is also associated with a lower risk of depression and low mood, the study reports.

Lead author Dr Stacey Loeb said: “Our findings offer hope to people looking for ways to improve their quality of life after undergoing surgery, radiation and other common treatments for prostate cancer that can cause serious side effects. I’ll give it to you.

“Increasing fruits and vegetables in your diet while reducing meat and dairy products are simple steps patients can take.”

She added: “These results add to the long list of health and environmental benefits of eating more plants and less animal products.

“They also clearly challenge the historical misconception that eating meat enhances male sexual function, when in fact the opposite appears to be true.”

A previous study conducted by the same research team reported that following a plant-based diet can help fight the development of prostate cancer.

“Dietary fiber, polyphenols, and antioxidants found in plant-based foods have been shown to improve glucose metabolism, reduce inflammation, and ultimately improve endothelial function. For example, in improving erectile function. It increases blood flow to the penis, which is fundamental,” Dr. Loeb said.

She continued: “In contrast, previous research has found that eating meat is associated with poorer erectile function, with mechanisms that may include both the direct nutritional benefits of plant foods and the intake of animal foods. A combination of decreases is possible.

“This finding certainly supports future research into whether completely plant-based dietary patterns, such as vegan diets, are associated with improved sexual function.”

The study was published in the journal cancer.
