Vanderbilt University has announced efforts to create a college dedicated to computer science, artificial intelligence (AI), data science, and related fields.
The University of Connected Computing works with all Vanderbilt schools and colleges to advance breakthrough discoveries and enhance computing education through a “computing for all” approach .

“Of all the forces shaping society, few have been more impactful than the rapid emergence of advanced computing, AI, and data science,” said University President Dr. Daniel Diermeier.
“To continue fulfilling our mission, preparing all students for careers and advancing research across the university, Vanderbilt is committed to research, understanding, and innovative application of these rapidly changing fields.” We need to do more to contribute,” Diermeyer said. “Our goal is to make Vanderbilt a world leader in these fields, ensuring continued academic excellence and the capacity for world-changing innovation.”
Mr. Labor said the establishment of the university will allow the university to further develop its programs and provide high-quality educational opportunities to students. He said the global interest in AI is “perfectly aligned” with Vanderbilt’s leading work in the field.
The purpose-built college will enable Vanderbilt University to continue making breakthrough discoveries at the intersection of computing and other fields, helping to more effectively leverage advanced computing to address some of society’s most pressing challenges. , she said.
“The creation of this interdisciplinary, ‘transversal’ university is a major turning point not only for the College of Engineering but for the university as a whole,” Roy said. “The future of education, research, and thinking in all fields is now intrinsically tied to, and will continue to be profoundly influenced by, the knowledge and power of computing.” The idea of ”computing for people” is fundamental to the future of learning. ”
