30 minutes to kickoff: The U.S. record against Panama is 17 wins, 2 losses and 7 draws, with 12 of those coming in the CONCACAF Gold Cup. The U.S. will be desperate to pick up three points when they face powerhouse Uruguay tonight in their final group game.
45 minutes until kick-off: Team news has arrived! Here are the starting lineups for tonight’s game:
USA (4-3-3, right to left): 1. Turner (GK) — 22. Scali, 3. Richards, 13. Ream, 5. A. Robinson — 7. Reyna, 4. Adams, 8. McKennie — 21. Weir, 20. Balogun, 10. Pulisic.
Panama (5-4-1, right to left): 22. Mosquera (GK) — 23. Murillo, 24. Farina, 3. Cordoba, 25. Miller, 15. Davis — 2. Blackman, 6. Martinez, 8. Carrasquilla, 10. Barcenas — 9. Guerrero.
1 hour until kickoff: Panama will be without players for the Copa America, with only 25 registered players instead of 26. This is due to some very unfortunate player misfits. Panama captain Anibal Godoy sustained a thigh injury in a friendly against Paraguay and had to be removed from the registered squad, but Cherages defender Harold Cummings was added to the list to replace the injured player before the start of the tournament.
However, Cummings decided to decline the call-up, even though Panama had already listed him as a member of their squad, and because he was not injured he was unable to substitute himself, which meant Panama went into the tournament one man short. All in all it was a disappointing situation.
1 hour 30 minutes until kick-off: The final group game against Uruguay may seem like the most important game for the USMNT in the Copa America group stage, but it’s not. Tonight’s game is definitely their biggest win yet. Must A win would guarantee us a place in the knockout stage, so we should win.
If they don’t get the three points tonight, it’s a very risky course to hang on to in a match against the Copa America favorite. Landon Donovan agreed, telling ESPN’s SportsCenter that “we need to win.”
“We don’t want to be in a must-win situation in the third game against a very strong Uruguay team.”
“We have to win” 😤
