USA Rugby appoints new CEO Bill Goren effective March 18th

Mr. Goren will also be transitioning from his role with Major League Rugby, so current CEO Ross Young will take over the baton through a transition period to ensure an effective transition of leadership between both organizations. As the United States enters the developmental stage of the Men’s and Women’s Rugby World Cup, Young will transfer his time and his expertise to the major event arena. These events signify a legacy partnership between USA Rugby and World Rugby, with Goren at the helm and working together to have a strategic impact on the game.

Tom Cusack, Chairman of the USA Rugby Board, commented: Our research committee is comprised of USA Rugby Commissioners Rick Hamm (Senior Club), Bill Stevens (Youth & High School), Dennis Shanagar, and Jamie Burke (International Athletes). Steve Argelis and I worked with Barry McNeil and Michael Clarkson as independent directors. Worked as an executive recruiter at Bloom Sports Partners. We are pleased to hear that we had a thorough and robust recruitment process in finding the right candidate.

“After multiple interviews with a select group of applicants, Bill stood out in many important qualities. His ability to build and articulate, his collaborative leadership style, his communication skills, and his knowledge of rugby across the American sports landscape. Mr. Cusack concluded with a nod to Young, who is stepping down from his current position. “On behalf of the Board of Directors, I would like to express our deepest gratitude to Ross Young for his six years as CEO of USA Rugby. Without his vision and leadership, we would not have been able to get through some difficult times. Nor would we have won the 2031 and 2033 Rugby World Cups. We look forward to having his support close by and working with Ross on the extensive preparations for these events. I am.”

“Bill was instrumental in building the foundation of Major League Rugby and we are grateful for his contribution to our growth and success,” said Major League Rugby CEO Nick Benson. We look forward to everything he accomplishes in the next step of his journey as CEO of USA Rugby.
