MEDELLIN, Colombia – On the final day of the 2024 Pan American Championships, the United States won more medals, all of them in the recurve division.
Casey Cauhold won two gold medals in the women’s recurve team and individual events. Both went into a shoot-off.
In the men’s recurve event, Jackson Milic won silver and Jack Williams won bronze. Williams was a member of the men’s recurve team, which also won a bronze medal.
Sunday’s additional medal fines bring America’s total medal count to 12: seven gold, two silver and three bronze. Three of the gold medals were won in the individual competition and four in the team competition.
Cowhold held off a brave counterattack from No. 1 seed Alejandra Valencia (Mexico) and led 5-1 after three ends. Valencia took it to a shoot-off, with Kauhold scoring 9 points and Valencia scoring 8 points.
Mexico was also their opponent in the gold medal match for the women’s recurve team event, which also ended in a shoot-off. The American team of Kaufold, Catalina Noriega and Jennifer Musino Fernandez never trailed in the match, scoring 28 points to Mexico’s 24 in the shoot-off to win the gold medal.
Williams shared the spotlight with Gabe Anderson and Brady Ellison as the men’s recurve team defeated Mexico 6-2, setting the stage for the individual medal match.
In the men’s recurve gold medal match, Milic suffered a late surge from fourth-seeded Matias Grande of Mexico, losing 6-4.
The U.S. team returned home with an impressive medal haul, including compound shooter Alexis Lewis, who won three gold medals and secured a spot on the U.S. team at next year’s World Games in China.
And not only did the Recurve women return as Pan Am champions, but they also managed to fill a spot at the Olympics, which will be held in Paris later this year.
On the barebow front, the USA won gold and silver medals in the women’s division. Gold medalist Cindy Chacko also won the barebow mixed team along with Marcus Cooley.
