Colorado Springs, Colorado – After a three-day training camp in Brooklyn, New York, the United States Basketball Association announced Sunday that the 2024 United States Women’s Olympic Games will compete in the 2024 FIBA Women’s Olympic Qualification Tournament to be held from February 8-11 in Antwerp, Belgium. The preliminary tournament teams have been announced.
The 2024 USA Olympic Qualifying Tournament team includes: Ariel Atkins, aliyah boston, Nafeesa Collier, carrea copper, line howard, Sabrina Ionescu, jewel lloyd, kelsey plum, brianna stewart, Diana Taurasi, Alyssa Thomas and jackie young.
Five-time Olympic champion Taurasi (2004, 2008, 2012, 2016, 2020) has beaten Atkins (2020), Collier (2020), Lloyd (2020), Plumb (2020, 3×3) and Stewart. He is one of seven Olympic athletes, including (2016, 2020) and Young (2020, 3×3).
Additionally, Atkins, Copper, Ionescu, Lloyd, Plumb, Stewart, and Thomas were members of the gold medal-winning 2022 USA Women’s World Cup team.
Boston and Howard both have US Basketball experience and will make their US Basketball senior debut in Belgium.
2021-24 USA Basketball Women’s National Team Head Coach cheryl reeve (Minnesota Lynx) will lead the U.S. team in training camp and the Olympic qualifying tournament.She will be given the following support: mike thibault (Washington Mystics) curt miller (Los Angeles Sparks).
USA Basketball continues to evaluate roster spots for the 2021-24 U.S. Women’s National Team before finalizing the team for the 2024 Paris Olympics in pursuit of an eighth consecutive Olympic gold medal.
The United States qualified for the 2024 Summer Olympics after winning gold at the 2022 World Cup, but will participate in a quadrennial qualifying tournament. The four-nation competition to be held in Antwerp will be against Belgium on February 8th at 2:45pm ET, against Nigeria on February 9th at 12:15pm EST, and on February 11th at 12:15pm ET. The game against Senegal will be played at 1:15 p.m. ET. USA Basketball games are streamed for free to Courtside 1891 subscribers.
Three more four-team Olympic qualifying tournaments will be held simultaneously in Brazil, China and Hungary. Reigning world champions the United States and Olympic host France qualify, with the top three teams from each qualifying tournament including the United States and France qualifying for the Olympics.
