Cary, North Carolina – USA Baseball today announced the Golden Spikes Award Preseason Watch List, beginning the process of determining America’s Best Amateur Baseball Player for the 2024 season.
The preseason list includes 55 players from high school and college baseball. The Golden Spikes Advisory Committee regularly maintains a watch list for this award, allowing athletes to be considered for the award based on their performance during the season.
“It’s always an exciting time to begin the amateur baseball season with the announcement of the Golden Spikes Award Preseason Watch List,” said USA Baseball Executive Director and CEO. Paul Sailer. “Baseball season is just around the corner and we look forward to seeing our 55 student-athletes and many more compete in another thrilling year of amateur baseball.”
This list includes eight players who were named Golden Spikes Award semifinalists one season ago, including the 2023 finalists. jack carianone (Florida).Carianone added Charlie Condon (Georgia), Ethan Petrie (South Carolina), hagen smith (Arkansas), and tommy white (LSU) as a 2023 Southeastern Conference (SEC) semifinalist on this year’s preseason list.
JJ Weatherholt (West Virginia) also earned a spot on the preseason list following a semifinal appearance last spring, but a pair of Wake Forest teammatesJosh Hartle and Nick Kurtz– Rounding up the eight 2023 semifinalists who will appear on this year’s preseason list.

The SEC leads all conferences with 15 players, followed by the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) with 10 and the Big 12 Conference with nine.

- May 20th: Golden Spikes Award semifinalists announced, fan voting begins
- June 3rd: Fan voting for Golden Spike Award semi-finalists has ended.
- June 5th: Golden Spikes Award finalists announced, fan voting begins
- June 21st: Fan voting for Golden Spike Award finalists has ended.
- June 23rd: Golden Spike Award Winners Announcement
The 2024 Golden Spikes Awards will once again feature fan voting. Baseball fans can vote for their favorite players at GoldenSpikesAward.com beginning with the semifinalists being named on May 20th. USA Baseball will announce the finalists for this award on June 5th, and fan voting will begin again at GoldenSpikesAward.com, closing on June 21st.
