Ukraine: UN agency helps communities recover from devastation
In Ukraine, our field team led by Resident Coordinator Dennis Brown yesterday released a new report showing the results of more than 20 United Nations agencies supporting communities recovering from the devastation of war. did. From supporting small businesses to repairing homes, schools and hospitals, building new energy infrastructure and more, our UN team scaled up recovery efforts in 2023, implementing a $500 million recovery initiative . This is more than double the amount from the previous year. Our colleagues ensured the installation of new heating, water, and energy infrastructure serving 6 million people, supported more than 2,000 small businesses, rehabilitated nearly 1,000 schools, and created jobs for nearly 320,000 people. I trained new skills for finding. This work has been made possible thanks to donors who have contributed nearly $1.1 billion over the past two years, representing 42% of the amount requested for Ukraine’s reconstruction program. This support must continue. As you know, our UN team’s recovery efforts complement the humanitarian response to address the most pressing needs of those affected by the Russian invasion.
