COLD SPRING HARBOR, N.Y. — Alexander Grosch and Katie Engel, two “outstanding” science students at Cold Spring Harbor junior/senior. High school students have been selected to participate in the Cold Spring Harbor Institute Futures Program, the school district announced.
The students are guided by STEM Director Brian Taylor and School Research Teacher Jaak Loudsepp.

This program selects a limited number of juniors from Long Island’s public and private high schools who demonstrate a strong interest and academic ability in biology, chemistry, or computer science to participate in this highly competitive program.
This year, 15 students from Long Island high schools were selected. The students are
Faculty of science at each high school. Candidates must submit a written application and will be selected by her CSH Laboratory mentor through a personal interview process.
Students accepted into this highly selective program will have the opportunity to collaborate with world-class scientists conducting cutting-edge research.
Both students presented their research on March 19 at CSHL Grace Auditorium. Alexander worked with Rishvanth Kalyappan Prabhakar in the Mayer lab and published research on lineage tracing of thymic epithelial cells using SCATAC-seq.
Katie works with Peter Koo at the Koo Lab and published research on rethinking initialization strategies for deep learning in genomics.
