The Lunar Reconnaissance spacecraft was making very precise measurements of the moon at each valley crest, so we’ll know what we’re exploring when we return with Artemis. In fact, it also helped us get a better map of this eclipse. So we used it to create NASA’s solar eclipse map and its path. Very accurate. We used every measurement of every peak and trough to tell us exactly where the eclipse’s shadow is. amazing. Now, solar eclipses aren’t the only big celestial phenomena you’ll observe. The Devil’s Comet may also be visible on April 8th. Can you tell me what’s so special about this comet? So this comet is very dark and it may be visible at this time of day because it’s very dark near the sun. And every comet is special. And as these icy objects move through our solar system, it gets its name simply because it looks like it has two tails. Certainly, our viewers here in New Hampshire are excited about this eclipse and totality. Can you share some ways we can participate in solar science during a total solar eclipse? There are three great ways we can participate in solar science. So we made citizen science available. There is an earth observation app. You can download the app to measure the temperature and clouds during the eclipse. There’s also a solar eclipse soundscape, allowing you to monitor the animals and people around you and see what noises they make. During a total solar eclipse. Another option is this Sun Sketcher app. Use your mobile phone to measure the Sun during and around totality to help you understand how big the Sun really is.
