This unique leather iPhone case isn’t actually a case

Nomad’s new magnetic leather back adds protection and patina to your iPhone 15 Pro without adding the bulk of a regular case.

Nomad is no stranger to leather iPhone cases and has been making them for years. And now that Apple has stopped making its own leather iPhone cases (in favor of the more environmentally friendly but less luxurious FineWoven material), third-party leather cases like Nomad’s are more in demand than ever. .

So far, Nomad has offered two different leather iPhone cases. There’s a Modern Leather Case ($50+) and a Modern Leather Folio ($60+), both of which are essentially the same, with full-grain or Horween leather options, and either brown or black finishes. The obvious difference is that the Folio has a screen protection and a slot for a few cards and cash.

A third option, the Magnetic Leather Back ($40), is now available. As the name suggests, this is not an iPhone “case.”

The Nomad Magnetic Leather Back is similar to the company’s other leather cases, but instead of wrapping around the frame (side) of your iPhone, it simply clips magnetically to the back of your iPhone. This means it protects the back of your iPhone, but not the sides. The advantage here is that the iPhone has a premium leather finish but is slim. Thickness increases by only 2.05 mm (0.081 inch). So it feels like you’re not wearing the case at all.

The Nomad Magnetic Leather Back’s slim design means it’s fully compatible with MagSafe chargers, stands, and mounts, even when attached to your iPhone. However, magnetic leather backs do not have built-in MagSafe, so the connection strength may not be as strong.

However, there are further pitfalls. Nomad’s magnetic leather back is only available for iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max. iPhone 15 and 15 Plus do not have the option. The logic here is that it’s meant to show off the titanium frame of Apple’s more premium iPhones. (iPhone 15 and 15 Plus are still in aluminum mode.)
