I don’t take many selfies, but I know a lot of people who do. Inevitably, those selfies look as if the subject/photographer is trying their best to look like they’re not taking a selfie. But it’s all too obvious when you have to hold your phone in one hand and tap the shutter button with the other. What if you want to take a photo by yourself, but your arms aren’t strong enough to properly frame what’s in the background?

Well, Google has developed a solution for those who consider selfies to be their favorite form of expression. Basically, what the developers have done is use AI to recognize gestures. When the camera spots the gesture, it will take a selfie.

This gesture is called a palm timer. How to use it varies depending on the camera. His Pixel line of phones has this feature built in and is always on (you just need to define how it works with the timer feature). If you have a Samsung phone, you must enable this feature.

I’ve tested palm timers many times, and they are absolutely the best for taking selfies, especially if your arms aren’t long enough or you don’t want to reach out and tap and risk ruining the shot. It turned out to be a necessary item. Shutter button.

Let me explain how this is done.

We’ll explain this with the Pixel 8 Pro and provide instructions for Samsung devices. should Works on phones with Android 13 or higher installed.

That aside, let’s make this happen.

There are two options here. “On only if 3 second or 10 second timer is on” or “Always on”. We recommend using “Always On”. Otherwise, you’ll have to remember to enable the timer every time you take a selfie. However, if you don’t need to use the palm timer all the time, you can choose the 3-second or 10-second timer options.

If you choose the first setting, you must remember to enable the timer when taking a selfie.

How to use palm timer

This is very simple. To take a selfie, simply hold your palm toward the camera. You’ll see the camera app recognize your palm and start a countdown.

When the countdown reaches zero, your selfie has been taken and you’re ready to share it with the world (or retake it if you’re not happy with the result).
