DAYTON — The WGI Sports of the Arts World Championship opens its 2024 competition today in the Miami Valley.

As News Center 7 previously reported, the competition will be held throughout the Dayton area, with contestants competing in three categories: color guard, percussion and winds.
Events like this also help bring a big boost to the local economy.
As many as 60,000 people are expected to come to the Miami Valley for the event over the next week and a half. We will support the players from as far away as Japan.
Last year’s economic impact was approximately $18 million.
“This event brings so much business to our community. These people are staying in our hotels and eating in our restaurants. They are making money in our retail stores. “We’re definitely going to see a lot of people in the greater Dayton area this week, some by plane, some by motorcoach,” said Dayton Convention Visitors. Jacqueline Powell, the Bureau’s president and CEO, told News Center 7. on wednesday.

The contest will be held at several locations in Dayton. This includes UD Arena, Dayton Convention Center and Nutter Center.
Events will be held at Xavier University’s Cintas Center and Northern Kentucky University’s Trust Arena.
Several local schools will also be competing. That includes the Miamisburg High School color guard and the Bellbrook High School color guard.
Miamisburg is scheduled to play qualifying this afternoon at UD Arena at 2:20 p.m., while Bellbrook is scheduled to play at 4 p.m.
The contest will be held over two weekends and will continue until April 21st. Until then, people will notice more traffic in the area.
