TL;DR
- The Energizer Hard Case P28K smartphone was announced on the sidelines of MWC 2024.
- The phone has a 28,000mAh battery, making it ideal for markets with unstable power supply.
- The companies that developed these Energizer phones don’t have much of a track record of actually launching them.
In the past, we have seen niche brands offering smartphones with huge batteries. However, Avenir Telecom has found success with his 28,000mAh Energizer branded Android smartphone.
The Energizer brand licensee debuted its hard case P28K smartphone in time for Mobile World Congress (MWC). And the biggest selling point is certainly the 28,000mAh battery. This battery capacity dwarfs mainstream phones like the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra (5,000mAh) and OnePlus 12 (5,400mAh).
Avenir points out that the phone is made for heavy industry as well as countries where regular electricity supply is an issue. In theory, he’ll have a week’s worth of battery life even when charging another phone, so you can see why he’d target a market where power supply is unreliable. This is also ideal for campers, allowing you to go out into the wilderness for a few days and still have juice for several days when you get home.
There are many compromises to be made, but will it be possible?

However, all this power comes at a cost. The Energizer P28K weighs 570 grams, which is even heavier than traditional phones and even foldable phones like the Galaxy Z Fold 5 (253 grams). The device is also incredibly thick, thicker than its foldable counterpart.
Despite being touted as a rugged device, this phone has an apparent IP69 rating but no MIL-STD rating. Otherwise, this is a typically low-cost Android smartphone in other regions. It has a Helio G99 4G processor, a 6.78-inch FHD+ screen (likely LCD), and 256GB of storage. A 64MP + 20MP camera pairing is available on the back, while a 16MP camera handles selfies and video calls.

The hard case P28K will be available in October with a starting price of 250 euros (approximately $271). This is an attractive price for what is essentially a power bank connected to an Android smartphone. Unfortunately, there are no plans to bring this to the US.
However, there is one major caveat to this device. It’s the fact that Avenir doesn’t really have a great track record of releasing his Energizer phones of this kind. The company previously advertised an 18,000mAh phone in 2019 and a 16,000mAh phone in 2018, but neither device appears to have been released. It is also worth noting that the company’s teaser mentions that this device is awaiting the final approval of his Energizer.
So if I were a gambler, I’d probably bet that P28K won’t be released either. But we hope Avenir proves us wrong and that this is more than just a glorified concept phone.
