Meta has announced a new developer accelerator aimed at speeding up the development of “lifestyle” apps for Quest that leverage mixed reality, AI and hand tracking.
In its announcement, Meta said selected participants in the new “Meta Quest Lifestyle App Accelerator” will be eligible to apply for seed-stage grants, as well as product resources and mentoring from Meta and participating VC partners, including a16z, Anorak Ventures, BITKRAFT Ventures, Boost VC and Lightspeed.
“The program focuses on fun and engaging consumer experiences with novel, compelling and memorable mechanics leveraging Meta Quest’s unique capabilities in new lifestyle categories such as fashion, beauty, home design, shopping, cooking, DIY and arts & crafts,” the company said.
One example Mehta gave was of Zach Reed. Piano Vision, Use mixed reality to teach users how to play the piano.
The six-month program, aimed at small teams, includes three paid milestones to help teams prototype their concepts, and up to three Quest 3 development kits for teams in supported countries. Meta says specially selected participants will retain full ownership of their IP, code, assets, designs, and distribution rights.

Who should not apply?: Companies at Series B or higher, and studios in marketing activation, B2B apps targeting schools and professionals, video games, media consumption, fitness and wellness, or sports. Interested teams should first check the full eligibility requirements and Developer FAQ to see if they qualify.
Applications are currently being accepted, with a deadline of October 15, 2024. Meta will select the participating teams on December 31, 2024, and the program will officially run from December 2024 to May 2025.
