The iPhone 16 lineup is once again rumored to feature slimmer bezels than the iPhone 15 using the same technology as previously reported.

Apple is reportedly incorporating smaller bezels into the iPhone 16 lineup compared to the iPhone 15, and this is the second time this rumor has come to fruition. Interestingly, the technology that appears to have been used to accomplish this feat has the same name as previously discussed.

Korean outlet The Elec reports that the iPhone 16 will sport slimmer bezels using “border reduction structure” technology. As for how Apple plans to complete this task, it’s important to understand how bezels are made. Starting with the circuits, the circuits need to be placed closer together and the wires need to be bent down. Many technical difficulties are faced in shrinking display bezels to unfathomable levels, and at this time there is no company that can mass-produce his iPhone’s OLED yield at the level required by Apple. says the report.

To overcome these challenges, LG is said to be diversifying its display driver IC (DDI) supply chain by bringing in Taiwan’s Novatech in partnership with existing supplier LX Semicon. All three companies aim to improve quality while reducing costs. LG’s iPhone OLED production capacity is less than half of Samsung’s, so economies of scale are limited, so it is in the Korean manufacturer’s best interest to explore various ways to reduce costs.

This year, Samsung is expected to supply OLED panels for the entire iPhone 16 lineup, while LG has reportedly been tasked with supplying displays for the ‘Pro’ models. For now, it is unclear whether this “border reduction structure” technology will be included in all four models or if it will be limited to the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max.

Hopefully, Apple will give their lower priced models some much-needed consideration. Especially since millions of users want some differentiation from the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus while not wanting to splurge on a ridiculous amount of money for a higher-end model.
