Larry David could not “repress” himself.
The “Curb Your Enthusiasm” star and creator interrupted Thursday’s “Today” show conversation with Elmo and his father, Louis, which went viral last week. As Savannah Guthrie, Hoda Kotb and Craig Melvin tossed it to Al Roker, David went behind the couch where the “Sesame Street” characters were conducting interviews and started squeezing Elmo’s face. .
The host and Louis are seen panicking as David also mimes throwing a right hook.
“Larry, Elmo has always liked you!” cried the Muppet as the comedian backed away. “Let’s go back to the couch and talk about how we feel.”
“Larry, you’re going too far this time,” Guthrie admonishes David off-camera. He replied, “Someone had to do it!”
Guthrie and Kotb then urged David to offer a sincere apology to Elmo. After several promptings, the actor admitted, “Elmo, I just want to apologize,” but his sincerity was shattered when he laughed shortly afterwards.
“Thank you, Larry,” Elmo replied. “Elmo accepts your apology.”
The “Today” host had Elmo and Louie on his show to discuss his recent viral moment that started out seemingly innocuous. Posted by X on January 29th: “Elmo is just checking in! How’s everyone doing?”
This prompted some of the post’s 200 million viewers to pour their hearts out to this fluffy red monster.
The comments got so intense on Monday that Sesame Street’s official X account tweeted a link to mental health resources.
“Elmo, thank you for checking in with my reminder to stop and take a mindful moment to focus on how I’m feeling.” account replied Before adding links to resources.
