Party members are aiming for 93 positions in party polls
KUALA LUMPUR: It is a head-to-head contest for the post of MCA chairman between Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong and former Kuala Selangor district central committee member Datuk Tan Chong Seng.
The nomination process for the party polls here at Wisma MCA went smoothly yesterday with 153 members eyeing 93 positions in the main body, Huanita and youth wing.
As nominations closed at 5pm, there were no challengers to incumbent vice president Datuk Mah Han Soon and Wanita deputy leader Tee Phuey Lin, who retained their positions.
Four candidates for the post of vice chairman Wanita were also elected without a vote. They are Lo Shu Ying, Tan Chu Quang, Tam Fung Kieu, and Lieu Kim Moi.
In the plenary session, seven candidates are running for the four vice-president posts, including incumbents Datuk Tan Teik Chiang, Datuk Lim Ban Hong and Datuk Seri Thi Lian Khar. He will be challenged by Datuk Seri Dr Wee Jek Seng (Central Committee Member). Datuk Lawrence Loh (deputy director of finance), Datuk Nicole Wong Siaw Ting (deputy director of youth), and Dr Pamela Yong (vice president of Wanita).
One of the incumbent vice presidents, Datuk Seri Yew Teong Luk, is not running.
A total of 48 other people are vying for the 25 Central Party Committee posts.

In the Wanita sector, Mr Wong Yu Fong is defending his chairmanship against Penang Wanita chief Datuk Oi Siew Kim.
In the youth category, three candidates are vying for the top spot after Mr Wong passed the eligibility age of 40.
The candidates are Yong Peng City Councilor and Johor Provincial Executive Councilor Linh Tian Sun (national organization secretary), Daniel Wa Wai Hau (youth secretary general), and Bernard Chan Kee Siang from Klang District. It is.
Central Committee member Chung Yu Chuan will take over the department’s number two post, replacing Nian Yen (Deputy Minister of Finance).
There were 35 and 40 nominations respectively for the posts of central committee members in youth and Wanita divisions, where there were 25 vacancies each.
MCA secretary-general Datuk Chong Sinun said the introduction of candidates and campaigning began nationwide last night, with the Federal Territories MCAs taking the lead in last night’s meeting.
“The nomination process for MCA, Wanita and Youth was completed without any issues.
After yesterday’s nominations, he said: “Profiles of all candidates will be published on the party website to facilitate the voting process for party members.”
Chong said voting will take place on September 23 and 24.
“Voting windows will open at 2pm and close at 7pm,” he added.
Voting for the Wanita Party and the Youth Party will be held on September 23rd, followed by the main party elections on September 24th.
The party polls will see 52,736 divisional delegates, including 29,151 MCA delegates. 5,016 MCA Youth and his 18,569 Wanita MCA Representatives.
A total of 160 polling stations will be set up across the country.
The MCA’s annual general meeting is scheduled for October 21-22.
