What you need to know
- A new batch of renders has been released, claiming to be the first real look at the base model of Google’s Pixel 9.
- The device is likely to feature a dual camera array similar to the Pixel 8 and a 6.03-inch flat display.
- X leaker OnLeaks claims that the Pixel 9 renders leaked in January are the new third model, the Pixel 9 XL.
Newly leaked renders claim to be the base Pixel 9 device, and there are also rumors that Google will return to the “XL” category.
In collaboration with OnLeaks on X, 91Mobiles posted some images that purport to be renders of the actual base Pixel 9 device. According to the image, the Pixel 9 will have a smaller 6.03-inch display. The device can be launched with the following dimensions: 152.8 x 71.9 x 8.5 mm (12 mm step may occur due to camera housing).
Speaking of the camera, the Pixel 9 renders show changes to the chassis that we’ve seen before. The upcoming series will ditch the full horizontal camera array, giving it a pill-like appearance similar to the Pixel Fold. Imaging for the Pixel 9 suggests that it will arrive with two cameras like its predecessor.
The post adds that the Pixel 9 may offer a completely flat display with four rounded corners around the frame. Consumers may find physical buttons (power button and volume slider) on the right side of the device.
Additionally, it looks like Google will continue to offer selfie cameras with a punch-hole in the center.
The publication and X leaker OnLeaks have retracted some of the previously leaked Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro renders. A series of images leaked in January that touted the base model of the Pixel 9, but current information suggests it was actually the Pixel 9 Pro with a 6.1-inch flat display. Other images surfaced in January that were said to be of the Pixel 9 Pro, but OnLeaks claims they are of a third model, the Pixel 9 XL.
If the rumors are true, consumers will experience a smaller Pixel series in 2024. The Pixel 9 Pro drops 0.6 inches, bringing the display from 6.7 inches to 6.1 inches. This Pixel 9 XL is expected to take the top spot with a 6.5-inch display, but it’s still smaller than the 2023 Pro model. Many of them contradict rumors that Google will expand in 2024.
In their respective leaked renders, both the Pixel 9 Pro and the newly rumored Pixel 9 XL featured triple camera arrays. The end of March is approaching, which means we should take these rumors with a grain of salt until Google releases a teaser later this year.
Elsewhere, the Google Pixel 9 series has been recently rumored to have enhanced touch sensitivity. This feature comes as “Adaptive Touch” and allows the device to automatically adjust the sensitivity of the touch screen based on environmental conditions, such as rain.
