A new iPhone update is here, and it’s been highly anticipated (many experts originally predicted it would be released on Tuesday, March 19th, and it’s finally here). By the way, this follows the previous release, iOS 17.4, which was a huge update. Here’s everything you need to know.

Which iPhones can run iOS 17.4.1?
If you have an iPhone Xs, iPhone Xs Max, iPhone XR, or iPhone released in 2018 or later, this update is for you. This means all phones from the iPhone 11 series, iPhone 12 series, iPhone 13 series, iPhone 14 series, and iPhone 15 series. This also includes iPhone SE 2nd and 3rd generation models.
how to get
I’m sure you have the details memorized by now, but just to be sure, go to the Settings app and[一般],[ソフトウェア アップデート]Select . Here you can choose to download the new software now. This usually means that new software will be downloaded to your iPhone faster than if you chose automatic updates. Select Download and Install and your iPhone will be up and running in no time. This is a small download, 406.5MB on my iPhone 15 Pro Max.
Release contents
The speed with which this update was released indicates that we are focusing on urgent fixes. There are few details here, as Apple hasn’t provided many clues as to which security issue specifically it’s fixing. The only hint Apple has given is that “This update includes important bug fixes and security updates and is recommended for all users.”
This is a standard rubric from Apple, simply telling us that they want us to upgrade soon and that changes here are urgent.
On the contrary, this is common behavior from Apple. Apple wants as many iPhone users as possible to install protections before bad actors know what’s going on.
There were rumors that this update would focus on fixing a known bug related to battery life introduced in iOS 17.4, but the number of people complaining about this was fairly small, so that seems unlikely. I didn’t think it was low and it almost certainly would have been on the list. If that’s your intention, here it is.
Additionally, Apple released iPadOS 17.4.1 and stated one of the purposes of the iPad update in a separate support document. This fixes a camera bug for 6th generation iPad, 7th generation iPad, 10.5-inch iPad Pro, and 2nd generation 12.9-inch iPad Pro. This bug prevented the camera app from scanning QR codes.
