On March 29, the Department of Defense appointed its first ever Assistant Secretary of Defense for Science and Technology. April Erickson was sworn into the role in a ceremony conducted by his boss, Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering Heidi Hsu. The Department of Defense established this position in July.
