Speaker named after Wildscreen’s Science of Storytelling

Wildscreen announces speakers for new one-day event hybrid The event, to be held in Bristol on March 12, will bring together scientists and filmmakers from the wildlife film and television industry to discuss scientific research and the impact of effectively communicating knowledge on screen. is.

The Science of Storytelling at the Bristol Beacon will consist of a series of lectures, Q&As and panel discussions.

The event is hosted by field biologist, wildlife filmmaker, and television host Dan O’Neill.

Session and speaker details

Session 1: Aiming for symbiosis

An honest and frank conversation between a scientist and a series producer. We will explore what collaboration between production and scientists has been like in the past, what it is like now, and how we can move towards a truly symbiotic relationship.

Session 2: All Hail! Queen’s Science

Queens is the first series to focus on the natural world from a female perspective. Join the queens of new female-led documentary series production and filmmaking as they share details about the creation of this powerful new series, while protecting their relationships with scientists and experts alike.

Session 3: Crafting the truth

How can we communicate science effectively and push the boundaries of natural history narratives? This panel comes together to share expertise in production, education, science communication, and connections with Indigenous peoples, Shift the narrative to create exciting and compelling stories, while keeping the facts at the center.

  • Dr. Rosa Vázquez Espinoza – Ph.D. Chemical Biologist and Founder of Amazon Research International
  • Dr. Reyhaneh Makhtufi – HHMI Tangled Bank Studios Science Communication and Outreach Fellow
  • Dr. Alex Bowmer – On the Edge Natural History Director
  • Lizzie Daly – wildlife biologist, explorer and presenter


Session 4: Prehistoric Planets: Where Science Drives the Story

Dr. Darren Naish and the team behind the Apple TV+ series Prehistoric Planet discuss their collaborative style. The success of this innovative natural history series relied solely on thorough scientific support. Without science, there would be no story to tell.
