The Shippensburg University Small Business Development Center (SU SBDC) is an ongoing provider of free, confidential consulting and low-cost training to small business owners and potential entrepreneurs in Adams, Cumberland, Franklin, and York Counties. We received a new grant to continue our work.
The U.S. Small Business Administration awarded SU SBDC a portion of funding totaling $115,716 to help continue its valuable work in the region. The Department of Community and Economic Development renewed funding for his SBDC for $7,200 through an Engage grant and $92,704 through a Partnership for Local Economic Performance grant.
“We are grateful and honored for the continued support from our funders at the U.S. Small Business Administration, the Community Economic Development Administration, and Shippensburg University. It not only provides support services, but also promotes economic development and job growth,” said Robin Bartner, director of the Shippensburg University Small Business Development Center.
In 2023, SU SBDC served 624 clients in the region and over 1,800 clients in the past three years. The SU SBDC is part of the Pennsylvania Small Business Development Network, which has 15 centers across the state. Together, the companies served 13,000 customers in 2023.
SU SBDC has several core functions in its work, including core business management advice and consulting for prospective entrepreneurs and small business owners and managers; educational programs and information resources for prospective entrepreneurs and small business owners; is prioritized.
The center also received funding from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection through a subaward from Widener University to hire an Environmental Management Assistance Program (EMAP) consultant. EMAP provides environmental regulatory information and compliance assistance to small business owners and prospective owners.
“We have been supported by these funders for 17 years and look forward to future collaboration and the growth of the entrepreneurial ecosystem in the shipping region. We support key staff in the region who provide technical assistance. Additionally, SBDC and university collaborations are fostering experiential learning projects for ship students that have a direct social impact on the region and our customers.” he said.
